Now, Ive been wondering this for a while. I know this game has pretty high standereds and requires a good machine to run pretty lag free (exception to a few lags here and there.)
But there are some of us that meet minimum (or not even = me
) And get bad lag, but have gotten used to it and its still a good game. Im wondering what other will think about the System Req's for JTL. Im guessing in space, it will be considerably lower because there isnt as much to load, and lag might not be a problem.
I have 246 RAM and a 64MB Geforce 4 card, the cheapest i could find, lol. (thank God I have Broadband, heh.)
Whats everyone speculations on this? Lag better, worse, same?

i would imagine the same as the current game. if not pretty close to it
i wouldnt think JTL will take us much to run as empire divided does but i could be wrong, depends how big these space arenas are...

The current ground game is pretty demanding on system memory but fairly easy on your graphics card and processor. You also don't need a really high framerate to have decent gameplay (you can get by with 15-20 fps without much of a problem), and because it's an rpg, the latency/packet lossdoesn't have that much of an impact, unless it's really bad.
JtL is going to be the opposite of that in a lot of ways. It probably won't be as dependent on memory, instead relying mostly on your graphics card and processor. This is especially true because ~15fps is no longer acceptable. It's also going to be a lot more sensitive to your connection, high latency or packet loss will probably cause serious problems. There will probably be a lot of options for turning down the graphics settings to lessen the burden on the graphics card and processor, but there's not much they can do if you've got a bad connection.

Acctually Tavias the ground game is very draining on your card if you use it right. If you have your graphics up high its a lot of stress on it. I have very bad heating problems with my card when playing galaxies.
As for lag, it will be better with space. There is a lot less to load, and because of this there will be less lag. As for graphics and requierments... JtL will most def have the same req. as the current game since it will almost certainly use the game graphics engine. It will of course load better and faster with a more powerful one. So figure what % your graphics are at now, and thats what % they will most likly be at with Space.

One quick note, when talking about lag, it's important to be specific. Lag used to mean specifically net lag (usually latency, but also packet loss), but now it can mean bad framerates, or loading times, or anything relating to poor performance, so it helps to clarify.
I'm not sure what you mean Stakex007. The engine for JtL is entirely different than the current ground engine. I would assume that they have very little in common actually. They probably did design it to aim for roughly the same requirements though, for obvious reasons. You are right in that there is less to load, which is why it'll be less demanding on system memory than the ground game (which has to load a ton of things). On the other hand, there's a lot more movement, which must be tracked much more precisely than the ground game, making your connectionextremely important. You really have the most flexibility for your graphics performance, because of how many options there are to decrease detail levels enough to allow for slower systems.

Upgrade the memory to 2 gigs, Framerates are really low in the game cause the game is very memory intensive.

I have 1 gig of ram and have no problems even on a busy coronet day.

Been playing SWG and L2 with 192mb and gf2. Frame rates are killer.Graphics will be really importantwhen you arein huge starfighter/ship battles. If it's just like Xwing vs TIE fighter graphics lag for even 5 seconds will be the end of you. Will have a new comp beforeJTL comes out.

Since the JTL boards was placed up i've seen many post asking whats the system requirements for JTL. After some searching i found them and just wanted to post so everyone would have something to refer to.
"Windows 98 SE, Millennium, 2000, and XP; Intel PIII 933 MHz or AMD Athlon 900 MHz; 256 MB RAM; 32 MB 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L) Capability; PCI, USB or Onboard Audio Device; Quad Speed CD-ROM drive; Keyboard and mouse; 56K modem or faster Internet connection; 1024x768 capable monitor required"

Can someone please tell me if JtL will install if your system has less than 512MB RAM. i only have 256mb and i just read the Thunderheart post here about "Enhancing your SWG Game Performance" which states that "People who purchase Jump To Lightspeed are required to have 512MB of RAM." This is requirement is also in TSR-Chad's stickied post about system requirements.
I played the Beta just fine with my current system and if i have to upgrade for the JtL commercial version i would be a little unhappy. so if you have less than 512MB RAM and it installed OK for you let me know. thanks.

It will install and run with less than 512Mb of RAM but it will give you a warning message whenever you start the game telling you that you dont have enough RAM.
