Thought of this awhile back.
Yacht NPC Dealers placed in each major city. The dealers sell parts and such for your yacht.
Here is what they would sell.
Better engines - Faster speed and more manuverability. Each engine would be good for up to 2000 pulls, non-tradeable, and cant be used in other ships. The faster the engine, the more expensive. Once the engine burns out you go back to the stock engine until you replace it.
Flares and colored light shows- Since there are no weapons they could be replaced with flare and colored light shows for parties. Each one would be good for 2000 pulls and run off the capacitor.
Droid chips - Still need a DE but the chips would give your droid the ability to pilot your yacht through a series of waypoints you tell it too.
Yacht items - Specially made items just for the yacht's design scheme.
Trade ins - Trade your yacht in for a modified version of the interplanetary shuttle we have grown to love and hate waiting on. Or how about the smaller planetary shuttle equipped with hyperdrives?
Missions/Quests - Get quests from your yacht dealer such as taking some tourists on a tour of the asteroid field in Naboo space. After completeing 4 quests you get a nice new badge ".....has earned Suurosub's Yachtsmen Award Badge"
This would give the game a nice new moneysink. And we need all those we can get. Of course with the engines I would have to add that the yacht would have to be destroyable. Just not aggroable. So no one will exploit with it.

ehh, I would just like it to be customizable like engines and a droid interface and such. Why is it that every pre order reward or verteran reward is just a new skin for something else or it doesnt really have a function.

Most likely because they dont want people who got pre-order/veteran awards to have a decided advantage over a new player. This can cause animosity and problems.
Also it could be because the DEVs never actually think ahead. But who knows.
