Ok i have been going through the forums and yeah there arealot posts about this (old). Why cant you devs just give us the option to use rudder option on joystick to turn left/right and lean on joystick to roll. Surely the programming for this cant be that difficult. I think JTL is looking great but as an old flight sim junkie i cannot get into it with current joystick settings. So many people have posted complaining about this too. Give the players and option to decided how they like to play. Honestly i dont really give a fat rats crackif spaceships in real life have a real rudder or not. This game is for fun so let us play with the control options we like, so we can have fun

Did you try re-mapping your axes in options? Also I think there's a button you can switch that toggles between these modes... Seriously look under options -> interface -> keymap, there's tons of handy things there, both mapped and unmapped.

Tried all this. I have a Wingman Extreme joystick. I went into options (in game) and tried to rebind my roll key to joystick (lean left/right). Got a message stating this could not be done

I have a Cougar HOTAS and have mapped roll to one of the throttle rocker buttons, but would prefer the roll function on the joystick rather than the yaw. There should be an option to toggle either way. This is indespensible for MP ships to keep the gunners lined up to targets. And not to be a SW geek, but I don't see ships in the movies yawing back and forth on turns, they roll. On the real world physics kind of thing, inertia would create G forces that are best handled by the human body when it's directed up and down (mostly down) rather than side to side, ie. when using a pressure suit in RL fighter jets.

Roll is called Roll, rudder is Yaw, I just re-mapped my controls just fine on a test account as a trial for my new joystick to make sure it actually works now (it does

I thought I had tried that and it hadn't worked, maybe that was in beta. I'll try it when I get home.

There's also a command you can map (it defaults to joy button 5) that lets you swap roll and yaw on the fly

I have a Wingman extreme and had no problems re-mapping the roll and yaw to the more "atmospheric" style mapping.
In the controls menu, under keymap, and the space tab, look about 3/4 of the way down. You should see the option for roll. near the bottom is yaw.

I have also had no problems remapping. But for some wierd reason, going against all my prior fake flight experiance, I use the odd setup now. It just .. works. I don't know.
