Thread: Space battles! An idea to make space a little more intresting than random spawns

Alright here goes nothing. I'm sure everyone has complained about the lack of life in space. Just random spawns here and there. No capital ships other than the ones in deep space and kessel. So ulitimitatly space is like real life, its pretty dead. Here's my idea, which i think is really cool.

The empire is in power. When i launch into space here's something that should happen. I launch, start flying towards my waypoint. Next thing I know a victory class star destroy jumps in along with a dreadnaught by its side, now a rebel corvette and nubelon b-frigate jump in near that area as well. What happens? Both sides begin to engage one another. Now you lucky dawg you! You just happen to be in the right place at the right time. You fly closer to these ships as they are dispacthing their fighters to engage one another and bombarding each other with laser fire. As you come closer, you now must decide to engage and help or just observe. If your rebel and you engage an imperial npc you are now part of the battle and same for imperial. If your neutral, it would work like deep space, you choose your side. If any player of an opposing faction decides to get in on the action as well..... your open to pvp but only to those who are in this battle. Victory is claimed by those who have destoryed the opposing factions fighters and captial ships.

Another scenario of this is to have just one sides capital ships jump in and then possibly get a group of people to help you take that side out.

I think this is an awsome idea. not sure if anyone has posted something like it but i know if i saw this happen... i'd simply poop my pants.

Let me know what you think and if this has been posted before just say its been posted before and let this post die with what dignity it has.

Would be great if possible but capital ships are very hard to get in game, why do you think the star destroyer is in a sector with nothing but small fighters in it, even if more capitals ships could fit in the other sectors i think a few peoples computers would lag with something that large and detailed along with nebulas and other stuff.

Wonderful idea. I agree totally. The game in general needs more instanced events it would surely help with lag actually. Seeing as most events and grand experiences are locked geographically in the game. This would be increadible fun your walking around on yavin. When suddenly an imperial transport lands to make emergency repairs. Now you have a choice of what to do. Attack and destroy target. Attack and comandeer vehicle. I hear the rebels use comandeered vehicles for running sabotage missions. Attack vehicle and try to retreive intel. Then again you may gauge the risk too high, and walk away. Now with any of the three choices you can unlock a different path.

If you recover intell. You can take it to a recruiter and they will allow you to use the intel to attack a enemy command post, and get a good loot.

If you just destroy the vehicle you get to do salvage. Which means you might uncover a lesser loot on the spot. Perhaps a weapons component.

If you steal the vehicle. Only a JTL option you can pilot the ship to a sabotage mission. Use it to get inside the sheilds of an imperial base, and knock out the bases sheild generators, or take delivery of an item meant for something else, and take it for your own.

The instanced battles alone would be nice. It would be better if the instanceing took place more generally though. Every rebel in a region would get a instanced waypoint to enter the battle. That way twenty or thirty players flying over tat could get lucky.

Nice, I like those ideas. That would make the game a lot more "Star warsy". give it that great feel that i'm actually doing something. I was thinking maybe you can actually get the chance to fly an opposing sides ship temporarly for a mission. For example: You a rebel doing a covert imperial mission. You have to take a set of materials to a craft in space and dock with it and you'll be doing it in a tie interceptor. So your flying along your way and next thing you know a squad of tie interceptors jumps in to escort you. You start getting nervous as you hope they don't run an identity scan on you to see who you actually are. You get to you mission object and start to dock with the craft, now a group of pirates jump in as they want the same data your after. And the store develops from here. You can have any number of things happen at any point but in the end once the missionis complete the game automatically lands your craft at your point of take off as to not allow for griefing and the such... wouldn't want a rebel flying around in an interceptor.

I lag very rarely in space, so I can't see why they can't add stuff like this in.

-
FarStar: Romuski Til, Rebel Pilot/Commando.
Bria: Akrady Renko, Imperial Stormtrooper Officer

[[Our training hones us.
Our numbers shall swell.
The galaxy shall fear us Stormtroopers once more]]
Stormtrooper Gamma Company Wicki

I like the idea, but I would NOT want it being implemented until Nvidia cards get fixed.

I have a 5700LE Nvidia card and I lag whenever there are a lot of textures on the screen, or when the camera is very close to texture (detailed or low detail, i still get 6FPS... )

If SOE can fix there coding and help us people having this problem out, then im all for adding more capitol ships/random battles to the game, but for now, its just not possible.

Even to implement this on the ground would be an excellent idea. If i remember correctly, thats what the devolpers said was going to be in game before it was released. I remember reading that swg would have random spawns of a person running to you for help and it was up to you to help them or not. Same thing can still be applied here. In space you have random rebel/imperial spawns duking it out... why not the same on the ground. Have a rebel squad walking through theed, next thing you know an imperial shuttle is dropping off an atst with a squad of nova troopers. You choose, help your faction or watch in amazment. This game has so much potential.

Everquest 2 just came out and already it has an expansion on the way. Devs have done a great job with the game so far but there is still lots of work that needs to be done in order to make this game king of all MMO's.

Get cracken devs, and get more peeps to help you get cracken...

I want to play this game in all its glory as it has been envisioned, and i think something like this would make it a killer game.

EQ2 sucked, I know this because I played it for two months and im regretting leaving SWG so much I dont think an expansion pack will save that game.

SWG does have a lot of potential, its already a brilliant game, but things like this would make it even better. The thing is, though, the devs have a bit much on there plate atm and I would much rather see the combat rebalance and nvidia card fixes and the galactic cival war revamp roll out before anything new and potentialy buggy is added to the game.

On the ground game note though, with the battlegrounds mentioned earlier, they're already ingame are they not? The big zones surrounded by the blue poles... atleast I think thats what there for CMIR. It would be nice to see those working

Its a good idea!

I'd also like to add one I've been thinking about for a time now as well.

Since all master ships [YT-46, Nova and YT-1300] can carry up to 20 people, why not make it possible to acctually dock and board a hostile craft? What I am thinking on is in the way of the Corvette just that it can be smaller, kinda like the assult on Princess Leia's ship in the beginning of A new hope movie. Let it be a certain type of ships or make it a faction quest or mission. Since alot of people have suggested in various post about mixing space with ground up more, why not do something like this, using a imperial "quest" idea.

1. You talk with your recruitment officer who asks if you are available for a important mission. He tells you that Lord Vader is looking for a special disk that a Rebel spy carries. The rebel is hiding on Yavin 4 in a remote area, of course, he got several friends to protect him. Problem is that the spy gets away but drops a note.

2. Upon return to the recruitment officer, the player is informed that Lord Vader is most displeased with the failed capture and gives the player a second [and final] chance to redeem himself. The player is then to take the note to a intelligence officer to have the note deciphered. This task takes the player to a imperial outpost [take a pick] and from the intelligence officer, the player gets the information that the spy is to arrive in a space quadrant [can be made randomly]. Here should a clock start to give the player a stressed situation, needs to have his crew ready in time and also get up in space and move to the target area and also disable the spy's transport ship in time before it jumps.

3. Once the ship has been disabled, its for the players crew to work themselves through the transport and apprehend the spy. Considering that you can take up to 20 people on the master ships, the difficulty should be set accordingly or in accordance with the number of people participating in the "quest". A twist can be made here as well, another timer could start and the player needs before the time runs out, apprehend the spy or the spy will use a escapepod. If the player doesnt make it on time - see 4.

4. If the spy manages to activate and escape with the escapepod, the player must then go to the launch console of the escapepod and get the tracking device before returning to his ship. Once on his own ship he would then have to land and then start to track the spy on ground [could be like the Bounty Hunters droid tracking]. As the player catches up with the spy, he gives up and agress to follow the player back to Lord Vader.

Well, what I'd like is something along these lines, just something I tossed up in a hurry but should provide a general idea in what I am looking for.

That's another good idea. That would be awsome if we could dock with imperial/rebel space stations to attack them for quests. Right now their only purpose is eye candy, declare yourself overt, or they might have something to do with an objective. Let us dock and raid the place.

Maybe guilds can have space stations as well. For example guilds can put down rebel/imperial bases ont he ground. Each guild (certain sizes only ie large guilds) can place 1 space station in a part of space which could be attacked by overt imperials or maybe just for gatherings or maybe something else. I'm just going off on possible ideas.

Id also like the random spawns on the ground and space(if its on both this game with be the best) I liked it in the corelia second mission, you have to defeat 4 ties, yet there are like WAY too many ties to handle by yourself, but there are random spawns of X-wings that come and help you live.
