Will I be able to use FPto buy / upgrade my ship or do all purchasing / upgrades go through a shipwrite depending on what I'm certified to fly?

We don't know for sure. There may be some faction perks y ou can buy with factoin points. However, I would imagine that shipwright items will always be superior to anything you can get from a faction perk.

It would be nice to see some faction only additions to ships. Just like the ground game, something you can only add via a faction recruiter. For example:
A Specialised flight suit (different colour, with mods etc)
Specialised Mines
Imperial/Rebel prototype weapon deeds (one use deeds that a shipwright can use for you)
Anything to add a reason to FP again

I have been hoarding my FP so I can buy the most expansive faction ship when JTL launches but I suspect even better faction ships will be added later on via publishes.

Faction points won't be used to buy ships. I would still save them to see what cool stuff you can get, but it won't be ships.
All ships will be player made.
Also, since a neutral can join a faction space profession, they can't have ships be bought by faction points, since there is no way for a neutral to accumulate lots of them.

I remember reading somewhere, a long time ago, that having a certain rank would make new ships available to you. However, I haven't read anything similar to that in a long time.
I'd like to be able to check out faction wingmates with the faction points I have saved. At least in space, we don't have CH to worry about with the number of pets one can have. It'd be fun to have a couple TIE's flying in formation with you offering support to your attacks.

i thought buying personel fighters would be the best thing in the world. u could have ur own squaddron

It looks like this thread never got an answer and I have the same question. The press before JTL released said there would be ships to buy with rank and/or FP. Has that been quashed or just not implemented yet? ...or is it something you can do? In which case, I'd like to see some info about options.

I doubt they ever will, you do not even have to belong to a faction to fly for them, and that will probably be a constant.
It would hinder a Neutral on the ground but Rebel/Imperial ace in JTL if they were forced to join a faction to buy improvements or ships and the way JTL has been rolled out ground faction standings have no effect on the space game and faction points are not used, though prestige points are and might be in future space realatedstuff since those accumulate regardless of ground faction..
