so I once bought a droid for 20k, which was almost all I had at that time....apparently I wasn't aware droids had to be pre-programmed to do a specific job and was left with a useless (to me) droid...which I couldn't re-deed to re-sell.

I just started tier 3 missions...had to capture this imperial pilot (I'm rebel in a y-wing)..did that just fine, start escorting the shuttle..fighters show wave after wave...I do this ok...untill the shuttle warps out and all fighters turn on me simultaneously...

....I was destroyed..rather quickly mind you.

part of the problem is I don't have a droid/flight computer to use the "adjust shields" commands etc...because I dont' want to waste another 20k on a droid I can't use.

so..the point of this all is this; How do I know the droid I'm buying I can use and how do you make sure it is set up to use all the commands I want (shield adjusts: front/back, and whatnot?)

I've only been playing for a little over a month....so I'm still learning obviously.

thanks.

The 'Droid Interface' is an important part of the process. Itallows and controls the 'speed' in whichyour flight computer/astromechcomminuicates with your ship and how often. So you want one as fast a s possible.

As you found our the flight computer/astromech droids themselfs have no built in programs.

Each Pilot Professioncomes withspecefic droid commands. which are available to the pilot as they level up.

You canalso use the droid commands from the other piloting professions by obtaining 'pre-programed droid chips' and then programing them, as well as your own pilot specefic commands into your flight computer/astromech droid.

There is a detailed link somewhere with all of the necessayinstructions, I'll see if I can find it.

I will display the "Test Center" icon until SWG is bug free.

That link is an excellent one. Just to re-iterate; you Weren't Burned. All droids come Empty, and it is then up to you to program them, either with your own Droid Commands, or, with chips, programmed by others. The Chips are made by Droid Engineers and are sold either blank, or, programmed, in fair quantities on my own server. Programmed Chips such as,WeaponsOverloadThree (this is a text string you canuse in the Crafted Name sectionon the Galactic Bazaar when searching Player Vendors), goes for about 10K on Kauri (one of the more popular Chips).

20K is not a bad price for your Droid, also, save your parts! Don't sell them to the chassis Dealer. When you gather enough of them, have them Reverse Engineered (RE'd), by a ShipWright. You can expect to be charged for this service, but, in many cases, the end result is well worth the fee. The Pilot Board is full of threads on REing, at times as bit more so than the ShipWright Boards

Keep reading, Keep Flying, and Good Luck.

^I didn't mean the seller burned me..just that I lost the money and got "burned" becuase -I- didn't know what I was buying.

I didn't mean to sound like I was blaming whoever I got it from..

It's possible to get burned. An astromech style droid that wasn not constructed with a Data Module cannot be used to hold programs.

In the future, examine the droid deed before buying, the Pilot Certificationis supposed tobe listed in the stats. If there isn't one, its not spaceship ready.
