My next question would be only the armor component itself or do the max armor on other components drop also?

armor/hp's on parts, as well as hp's on chassis decay everytime they are damaged and you repair them.
The exception to this is droid overload commands up to level 3. They stess parts and cause damage, however if you repair said damaage right away, there is no degredation. If you wait to repair the stress damage the part in question will degrade. Again, This only applies to droid overload commands.
The only other instance you wont see degredation is in the deep space PvP area.

Ouch thats a game killer was expensive enough changing armor every other day at 75k each now that i know all components take wear ill no longer even worry bout collecting tons to reverse-engineer etc takes way to much time and cash.
PS(Might wanna rethink going fs vehicle teirs i just made teir 3 and from what i can tell it does absolutely nothing

i agree this is a gamekiller.. i never go out and do ridicoulus pvp fights outside of deepspace anymore.. and i dont use droid programs ether i used them lv 4 before and was always overt and now i belive if myRE lv 8-10 components will decay its djsut not as fun anymore.... i dont wanna go trought another pointless loot hunt in my life...
anyway i belive that SOE will change this becouse that people complain about it so mutch.. i know JTL was the thing keept me ingame but if its gonna be like this for long im gonna switch mmrpg. there waste space and lack of starwars in it is djust not fun without beeing able to fly overt and pvp in my oppinion

All Componets loose 10% of their armor value based on how much damage is repaired. ie if you take 100 points of damage and repair it you will lose 10 points of armor value on the component.
Armor degrades faster because you always take damage there firstbefore anything else gets damaged so you are repairing it the more then anything else.

one thing that everyone who complains about component decay really needs to consider is that so long as PVP damage is set the way it is, equipment is a secondary concern.
it is not difficult whatsoever to find some components and have them RE'd to fit into a PVP ship. try going out and dueling someone with a lvl 1 gun. you'll be surprised at how fast the duel ends. you don't need that uber lvl 10, or your super reward shield, or that prenerf reward engine to PVP effectively. PVP right now is about
1. aim
2. situational awareness
3. manuverability
the only place equipment is going to help you is #3, and that can be overcome somewhat by simply overcharging your components. yes, you'll lose in duels probably to people with that extra 5YPR but you'll do fine in PVP, trust me. (note i'm talking about fighters here, not MP ships, that's a whole other can of worms)
also you have to consider that shipwrights do need a business that can sustain itself. right now missles are a joke, armor is practically a joke. once everyone has thier ships, what's left to buy off the SW? if armor degrades quickly and people have to buy it imo that's acceptable because it is optional. i haven't used a piece of armor since i finished tier 2 and i doubt i ever will again.
one more thing... if PVP damage does get reduced 50-75 or higher % which is what people are clamoring for, THEN you'll see the effect's of decay and equipment. people should be extremely catious about asking for damage reductions. i'd much rather see 8-15k shields added to the game with over 200k mass for MP ships. people say 1 hit PVP isn't fun, but imo neither is a guy winning just because he has the time to loot the best equipment, or the money to buy the best prenerf engine.

I strongly dissagree with no damage, even for PVP, the ship writes need business. No I am not a shipwrite. If there is no penelty for gett'n blowed up except a little HAM and BF, whats the point in trying to stay alive. Solution: Don't get blowed up...run rabbit run....if you really have to. I have my A-wing set up really nice, and I don't wanna loose any of those peices, I even have armor and a missile launcher, so when it get's to hot for me to handle I IFF my enemys and run like heck.

Even in a major battleground scenario where you may die as many as 15 times in an hour?
>>so when it get's to hot for me to handle I IFF my enemys and run like heck.
In PvP?! I've never seen that before.

In PvE, if you take component damage then something went wrong, and in a major way, if this happens outside Deepspace (where there is no decay) or maybe Kessel (Corvette). So, I'd not call it a game killer at all.
PvP... go build a PvP ship out of crafted parts and some cheap looted components.

for the masters out there...
if your ship and components are damaged, you can go to deep space for full repairs with no decay when you leave. even damage done before entering deep space will be fully fixed.
so go ahead and run your engine overload 4....
