I recently bought a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. I was excited to try SWG with a joystick, but as soon I launched into space and started flying I realized what a big mistake I had made.
The "dead zone" at the center of the Logitech 3d Pro (by dead zone I mean the centered area where the stick would be when you let go) kept me from making any precise movements. As soon as I move the joystick out of the dead zone, the ship would suddenly jerk. Making precise movements consisted of quick jerks in an out of the dead zone(and yes, I tried adjusting the sensitivity in the options screen).
I wish that the joystick was constantly linked to the movement of the ship, like the mouse is, so movement is much more fluid, allowing for more precise flying.
Does anyone know of a joystick that is permanently linked to the movement of whatever its controlling? I know some joysticks have a "mode" switch on them to allow for a dead zone(which is nice because you can aim and then let the stick center so you go straight) and a more precise mode that doesn't have a dead zone.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? And if they do, can you reccommend a better joystick? I'm thinking of trying the Saitek Cyborg Evo.

You can adjust the dead zone in game from the options menu. I would say putting down do almost zero would work about right. If not, take it back out a little at a time until you get a good feel. You can do this while in space if you don't mind some erradic movement. But, it sure beatsgetting out of game to make setting changes. Also, I think you can make sensitivity changes from the same in game options menu.

Yup, that is what I did, I too have the Logitech extreme 3D pro. I was just like you and very upset until I learned how to make changes to the controls. Hang in there.

Just use the Profiler to make whatever changes you want, it's incredibly useful. Deadzone, sensitivity, you name it.

Lol, I had been adjusting the sensitivity option to try and fix it, but some how I missed that dead zone option right above it, lol. The joystick works great now that I lowered the deadzone. I recommendthe Logitech Extreme 3d Proto anyone looking to buy a joystick.

Good to hear you got it fixed. I have a Extreme 3D Pro as well and it's been flawless. Logitech rocks.

When my stick (Thrustmaster Cougar)started to spike (and every joystick will spike eventually, and those cougars are prone to do so) I replaced its pots with Hall-sensors - was not cheap but definitely worth it, I think I'll never need another stick again...
