You can select what component to target by press the [ or ] key. To disable a ship, target either the Engine or the Reactor. You'll see the component you have targetted come up above the ships's Shield/Armor/etc percentages.

Cancelled 7/27/05 - I joined to play Star Wars, not Jedi-BH Wars. You've ignored/gutted/abused just about every other profession in the game, while spending most of your time working on Jedi and BH as they related to Jedi. You've basically killed the game for anyone who doesn't want the glowstick. Congratulations.

I reccomend targeting the engine over the reactor because if you take out the reactor, this ship still has some power left over that will slowly drain out where-as taking out the engine will diable the ship almost completely.

Actually, that's the other way around. Taking out the engines will stop the ship from moving, but it will still be able to fire at you. Taking out the reactor will shut down all its systems-- the engine wont work, it wont be able to fire at you, and it wont be able to lauch missiles, either.

If the ship has a turret, however, the turret will still be able to fire until its capacitor runs out of energy no matter what.

if the target sub component is not working with the brackets [ and ] then you will be able to see what keys they are bound to in the game options -> keymap -> target section
