Thread: Newbies ship's weapons go clunk when I try to fire them. Any thoughts?

I have seen a couple of posts regarding this same issue, but I haven't read about a fix yet. Here is my situation;

My ship used to work when I first got it. Like most, I went out and got myself blown up a couple of times. I did the repair route, and my ship shows 100% on the manage ship area of the terminal (and also show "pristine). While I am in my ship, everything else works except the weapons. When I hit the fire button, I get the "clunk" sound. When I hit control-v, I get red bars for everything. The only area that may be an issue is that my Capacitor (prototype) shows Capacitor Energy: 0.0/0.0 when I am in the manage ship screen. I have spent $11,000.00 on two repair kits (one all purpose and the other for the engine), but both say "no repairs needed" when I try to use them. I tried using the repair kits on every component on the ship.

Last item; I have two different engines. The first is the prototype engine. When I load it using the manage terminal, my ship stats are Mass: 10500/11000 Engery: 8000/8000 Chassis: 654/654. When I load the Kust Systems Engineering A-2X Thrust engine, the stats read Mass: 9879/11000 Engergy: 7556/8000 Chassis: 654/654. Both options result in the same "clunk" sound when I try to fire the weapons. Finally, I have made sure that the weapons are assigned to the right location under the control-g option.

I would really appreciate any help. If I do need to buy something else, can you please be specific as to a model number for my ship (remember, it's the freebie ship everyone gets at first.

I need to buy a new capacitor, even if the one I have shows 100%? I know, I know, out with the wallet again.

This is why you should keep most of the parts you loot at first, even though you could sell them to a chassis dealer.

the clunk sound means your are actually trying to fire a weapon, but it has no energy to discharge, or is only a missile group and no target. This is caused by one ofa fewthings:


Your capacitor is not loaded or is disabled.


You have gone over the generation output of your reactor, and it has shut down systems, namely your guns. Note: if you use overcharge programs, such as engine, capacitor, or weapon overcharge, this draws more energy from the reactor. When you do this, you may hear a winding down "HHHHMMMMMmmmmm....", the sound of one or more of your guns going offline. You can hit V to look at the status of your systems. A lock will appear next to any shut down system. You should also see on the left half of the target circle your current capacitor pool with a red semi-circle and a value.


Your weapons group currently chosen has no operational weapons, or consists of missiles only and you have no valid target. Be sure to bind a key that allows you to cycle through the currently assigned weapons groups to get to the gun groups. Note: you can hit 1,2,3,etc... to fire each group to test it. (assuming you left those default bindings in place).


Your gun(s) is(are) disabled; have no condition

Are you still flying the starter ship, is that what ya mean by n00b ship? It my be time to buy a shipwrite crafted one. Don't really know just a thought.
