Few questions, early stages pilot...

FIRST QUESTION:

I fly with the mouse now. Doing the privateer missions, in the Scyk.

I noticed when I want to type something in the chat window from the cockpit, or if I want to click on ANYTHING on the screen I am unable to. But I am able to if I open up another window say press H for hyperspace window. Then I can click in the chat box, click on the responses when sent to me from a space station to land, click on the reporting options on the top right, etc.

Is there an option, selection, function, setting I am unaware of? I know that using the mouse for piloting needs to keep some sort of order so you can fly around but there has to be a RIGHT WAY to be able to click on things with the mouse when flying your ship instead of opening up another window to bring mouse functionality back.

SECOND QUESTION:

Wondering if there is a way to TARGET more than one ship? Even if it is just for tracking purposes? On the (I believe) 3rd privateer mission I needed to escort the freighter. Well I get to the freighter, and the bandits come in. I start hitting TAB to lock on to closest enemy or R to lock on to the last one that fired on me and begin to do work. However it seems I was getting too far away from the freighter. I lost several of these missions because I was unable to stay close enough to the freighter. IS THERE A WAY to keep tracking the freighter (any target) but still be able to use the options (like TAB, and R) to lock up the enemy ships? To pass that mission I ended up staying locked on the freighter the whole time so I knew where it was and just did my best to engage the enemy ships in the region closest to it. Not sure if that's the right way, wrong way, or hack way to do it but I finished that mission OK.

THIRD QUESTION:

On the privateer mission I got to last night where you need to kill the ace to start getting the pilot training (I have enough XP now for 1-1-1-1 but I need to finish killing the ace to get training) I engaged him, and it was just me and him for gosh knows how long, I could not seem to damage him much. His shields were always around 90% or higher. FINALLY HE MADE THE JUMP TO LIGHT SPEED and left me there. I failed the mission. Here are my noob skills showing, have I missed something? Should I perhaps have more powerful lasers, do I need to fly in a group with someone? Because I was hitting him pretty good the entire time, and couldn't seem to get him out. I'll try again tonight but if anyone see's me in a noob mode and would like to correct, please do!

Much appreciated!!

1) Press alt button to switch modes.

2) No

3) He is harder then the other ships, since he is tier 2, but he shouldn't be unbeatable. You just have to focus your hits on him and keep pounding.

Upgrade your ship to a Dunelizard and then upgrade your weapons and capacitor (and everything else). I got very frustrated with my Scryk (starter ship), until I started upgrading my components. I waited until midway through tier two to get a dunelizard and kicked myself for waiting so long. You have almost four times the amount of mass to play with.

With stronger guns, you should have no problem killing that tier two ship.

He has to beat the ace before he can get trained to use the dunelizard.

Ah. Then be sure to upgrade your weapons.

Lol he can't do that either unless he finds a really good tier 1 blaster.

This might just be for me, but last night i found on higher level and faster ships that if i aim a little bit in front of the ship and make my shots hit right at/on the front of the enemy ship it seems to do more damage. when i would just shoot and hit anywhere on the enemy ship it would hardly do any damage until i got the shields to 50% or below. so i just had my shots hit the nose of the enemy's ship and it seemed that the shields would deplete faster. after the shields are at 50%, you can just about shoot anywhere to start depleting the armor but like the shields it seems to do more damage and faster if you hit the front end of the ship. after i have the shields at 50% or below and the armor at 50% or below i start targeting the engine to disable and slow the enemy ship down. once you destroy the engine the ship is all yours to destroy. like i said this may just work for me but i thought i'd share it with you. i was getting frustrated with higher level ships too because it seemed that the shields would never deplete and the ship would get away. i also found that the closer you are to the enemy ship, it seems that the more damage is done and the easier it is to place your shots in the right place. you might want to invest in a higher power weapon and a faster engine too. faster engines help you keep up with the higher level ships. i think the weapon i use now, i forget what it's called since i'm at work, but it has a damage around 372-472 with a .500 damage shields and .500 damage armor. i'm still using my first ship (scyk) since i can't afford another and i'm 1-2-1-1 right now.

Thank you for the help. I'll work on some of that when I get home after work. I agree its hard to get anything faster/high power at the current skill level. Plus I am broke with probably just over 30K credits available to me.

1) Press enter to chat/use commands in the chat window

2) No there isn't. Keep an eye on your radar - the friendly critical target will be a yellow dot with white square brackets around it. The bigger the dot the closer you are to it.

3) Important thing here - you have a green target on your screen which, depending on your targets course and speed relative to yours, will be a certain distance ahead of the enemy craft. You need to imagine a line between your target and the green reticle and fire along this line until the hits start to register. Once you see you are doing damage fire away. Keep in mind though that this point will change as your target moves and changes speed.

yeah i'm in the same situation you are in as far as money, i have about 40k to my name. i just got lucky and looted a more powerful/faster engine that was lightweight from one of the ships i killed. it's still hard to keep up with that ace ship so you will have to rely on "fancy flying". since it will always outrun you, you will need to utilize the roll and the predicting of the enemies projected path to keep up or catch back up with him. also if you have different weapons you might want to try them. like if you have a weapon that is .670 effectiveness on shields and .330 on armor you might want to try that out. it seems that the shields are the hardest thing to get down since they can regenerate themselves.

i'm not sure what server you are on, but if you are on the Bria server and you still have problems killing him and get too frustrated look me up in game and i'll give you some help. In-game name on the Bria server is "Suklaa".
