I find it funny that so many people are complaining that it is impossible to solo anything.

Y'all really need to learn to use the droid programs.

You should be trading with the other factions to get some of their chips. Before taking on these missions that are 'too hard' you should always do 3 things:

1 - Reactor overload

2 - Weapons overload

3 - Engine overload

Get the chips that are appropriate for your level and use them. Then in flight, as needed, use the shield re-balancing programs.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, each faction can use the other factions droid / flight computer chips. You just can't program them all.

Share, trade, sell, do whatever it takes, but get the other programs and learn how to use them.

If you can do this, you will easily solo everything all the way up to the corvette mission which you will need help for anyways, but, with knowledge of how to use the droid programs, it will be a much easier mission!!!!

Another thing people should do is learn to avoid this defeatist "I can't do it at all if I can't do it right the first time" attitude and not give up after two tries, hoping some Ace will come along and tow them up the Tiers. I got to Tier 4 before I even STARTED using droid programs, and I did just fine.

Not to brag, but they're not the end-all-be-all (though EO3 makes catching T5 A-Wings MUCH simpler)

I have a question along these lines...is it possible to use droid programs that are more advanced than what you are certified for i.e. Tier 4 programs when you are only on Tier 1?

Yes, but the IV level programs aren't recommended. The highest ones that can be reliably used are the III-levels.

But to answer your question - yes, even a Tier 1 pilot can use Tier 3/4 droid commands.
