Thread: Having to Group to Complete Mission

I like to know why! JTLS making it where you have to group to do your missions. For me and others that would like to be able to complete the missions knowing we did it on our own. But not being able to get training till you complete the mission stops you from bettering your ship. Where you may be able to complete the mission.

You havethree options.

1) keep trying it till you finally finish it. Will take forever and cost you a large fortune.

2) play an mmorpg like an mmorpg.

3) play a single player game where you don't have to group to finish it.

The reason SOE did that is so that you have to interact with your fellow players to achieve a goal.Thats also the reason they released SWG as an MMORPG.

I do not agree with the "group or else" attitude that I have read repeatedly on this forum. I have absolutely no problem with people grouping (I group at times myself), but I am totally opposed to the idea that you "HAVE" to group to play. That is just stupid. One of the reasons that we had master pilots within2 to 3 days after launch, is that some people simply grouped up and "grinded" the missions. If that is your thing, fine and good luck to you. I have managed to get to Privateer 3-3-3-3 with quite a bit of XP, by taking a mission and figuring out how to get it done. Yes it takes time, yes it can be quite frustrating at times, yes I have failed almost every one of them at least once but the personal rewards, for me at least, are worth the price of admission. To the originator of this thread I say, just keep "thinking" and you will find the way to solve the missions. It's not always how many bad guys you (or your group) can kill, but sometimes how many you can out fox. Read each mission carefully and you will have a lot more fun. To Datho, I hope I in no way "dissed" you, if I did it was not intended. I just hope you take the time to enjoy the game rather simply group grinding.

Yeah, maybe a little bit to expound on why people will say, "well, it's a MMORPG, this is how they work.."

In making a Massively Multiplayer game, the developers <*Gasp!*> designed some things to require players to group and work together! Not just a solo game (*cough*fps*cough*) that get easier when played cooperatively.

I use to feel the same way, until I learned a little more about using flight computers. Talk to pilots of other factions and get them to program some chips for you. Use them all. I use to get slaughtered by tier 4 baddies, but now I can handle my own with tier 5's

To say that MMORPG's are only "supposed" to be played in groups is ridiculous and short sighted. MMORPG's are unique because they aredesigned to havemany peoplesimultaneously playing a RPG style game. Although many people in SWG enjoy the social aspects of a MMORPG and go out of their way to expand on it, this is by no means a requirement. Itreally bothersme that people are so close minded to think thatif I don't want to associate with many people, join a guild,or group when something needs to be done, I am labeled as someone who is not playing the game correctly. Quite frankly I have found that many of the players in SWG annoy meand simply being around them is aggravating but I respect the fact that this is the way they want to play their MMORPG so I keep my comments to myself as long as what they are doing does not effect me directly. I have read a significant amount of posts from people that feel that nothing is wrong with their solo "lifestyle" while playing SWG so I know that I am not alone on this issue.

So the lesson for today is... "Understand and accept that some people will have a different point of view." This quote is endorsed by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Nah, I don't feel flamed at all. If you want to go through and beat the missions yourself go ahead and do it. That was #1 on my list of things the original poster could do. Personally I really enjoy flying with friends to do missions. Nothing better than having a wingman or being a wingman. Personally I feel it adds to the Star Wars feel to the game. Besides the Falcon, there weren't any other ships flying around by themselves, to my knowledge at least.

As far as people grinding out the pilot prof, I'm the farthest from a grinder you will ever meet. It took me 6 months to master dancer and 11 to master pistoleer. Im on 2322 with pilot right now, mainly because I still have a ton of stuff to do on the ground.

The point I was trying to make originally is that it's an MMORPG and SOE wants thier MMORPGs to played in group interactive settings. Thats the reason why the space missions are so damn hard. I don't fault them for it and I actual commend them for it.

The problem with the missions for Rebel anyways is poor mission design. I built my X-wing to be durable and Heavy Fire Power. But last Tier 3 Mission in 2 Places there were static no mission ships right near the mission objective. Like one place I have to fight 8 lvl 3 Ties but there are 2 lvl 4 Aggressors and 2 lvl 4 Interceptors that aggro most of the time, then next part you have to fight 4 Bombers with Missiles and 4 Ties and there are 4 lvl 4 Pirate Z-95 that ALWAYS aggro. These are non mission ships. Just poor design. Took 3 trys to complete that with one death and 1 hyper away. With a properly equipped ship the Missions are fairly easy or at least doable but the non mission ships will rip you apart even in a group.

I really want to see if I can solo all of my missions. I know it's fun to group up and all, and I do that, but I just have to try to solo this stuff and beat it. Learning from my mistakes in past defeats, tweaking my ship to handle what's thrown at me, getting through it alive... Now that there, is what I call fun.

This has been a common complaint on this board, and I am afraid the devs will take it seriously. Here is my point of view.

concreteman, you said that you and others would like to be able to complete the missions knowing you did it on your own, yet you are complaining because you are NOT good enough to do it on your own. This sounds really silly to me. It is like someone who plays a first person shooter and gets to a hard part and uses a cheat code, and then brags about how he beat the game. News flash, he didn't.

So, with this being a massively multiplayer game, SOE made JTL very challenging so even the best pilots will have a tough time on some of the missions. I personally was able to solo every mission so far (only have two left) but one. This is something one can be proud of, but if they make the missions easier for your sake, then it will be too easy for me and I will complain that JTL was too easy and lacks content. It is a catch 22.

I personally think overall the devs did a much better job with JTL then with ED, and from me, that is a complement. I was against JTL as I was scared that lag would be a huge problem, but SOE was able to make it a minor issue. The AI currently needs some work, but the missions are at the right difficulty, and if anyone is having problems, they can call in a friend (even a master pilot can help). In theory, you can get 20 players to help out and for most missions, that is more then enough, even if they are all green pilots.

To the person who posted the lead thread, you're not along in this. Many people have already expressed the same sentiments.

I didn't read the post other then yours but I already know some are saying, this is a group game blah blah blah.

It's not a group game nor does the name imply it is. It's another bright idea from the Devs, like always.

Yeah people always say it's an MMORPG

Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game

No where in that does it state Group Only Game. It means you can play with other people or that other people will be in the game but Grouping should be a choice not be forced on us. In AC2 people started going solo more and more so they gave a big bonus for groups in Xp so you could actually get more in a group than solo. Then there were large groups roaming about. But then the changed in bacl a bit since people were lvling too fast. Then there was FFXI which was Group Only. There was no one that could hunt anything for meaningful xp solo. Problem is the reason I quit as it was normal to have to wait seeking for 2 hours at LEAST for a group. Some night of seeking for 3 hours and asking leaders of groups if they had an opening I just quit not having played at all. The ONLY good system is to have stuff soloable and to have some stuff Group Based but stuff should be soloable for progression of your character and hroup stuff should be more for the enjoyment of being in a group for the fun of it, not because you have to.
