Thread: Components for X-Wing

I just started Tier 3 a couple days ago, and trained the components box first. I went ahead and outfitted my Y-wing longprobe with the strongest components I could find;all were Level 7 components. I turned my Y-wing into quite the tank and was able to train the next box rather quickly (the X-Wing certification box).

Without having paid any attention to the mass of my components when buying them for my Y-wing, I neglected to think about the consequences when transferring components to my new X-Wing. I could only fit half my level 7 components into my X-Wing, as I was about 40k over in weight! Damn! Back to the drawing board and shopping mall for me. I looked high and low for high level (6 or 7) components that had lower mass than the ones I currently own, and could not find any anywhere. I resigned to the fact that I was going to have to downgrade some components just to be able to fly my X-wing. I kept my engine, weapons (and something else I forget) at level 7, but had to downgrade just about everything else to as low as level 2 in order to meet the low mass requirements.

I took my X-Wing out on the next tier 3 mission and got OWNED several times in a row. Frustrated, but not resigned, I went back to my Y-wing with all level 7 components and managed to fair much better in battle. It's still tough at this stage of the game, but I definitely found that my Y-wing was the stronger ship.

I guess my question is- shouldn't I be able to make my X-wing the better of my two ships? I know that some of you out there have some pretty good X-wings, and I'm wondering if you can give me some advice on outfitting it properly. Which compnents should I maximize, and which ones can I afford to skimp on? Do I even have to skimp on anything? Am I missing something here?

I'd really like to get out of my Y-wing and into the more classic rebel ship.

Oh yeah, another question I have:

How do you change the texture of the X-wing? I think my paint job would look so much cooler with Texture 4 than with the default.

Thanks

CassiusK, I personally find the Xwing is the better of both ships for dogfighting. The Ywing can do serious damage and take serious damage but is slower to maneuver then the Xwing. So what I did was put on one level 7 weapon and a good level 5 capacitor. I used my reward engines and a reactor that could handle my power requirements. I bought a shield that did 1200 front and back and some 1200 armor.

I left out the missle launchers and the two extra weapons (as the capacitor can't handle 2 lasers very well) and was able to fit an Xwing that can win. When in battle, I can very easily stay on my opponents tail and take them out without worrying about capacitor drain.

Now in Tier 4, I did go back to the Ywing for some missions to use my missles and to use my 2400 f/b shields. There is a place for all ships.

It's all in the RE. I found that RE'ing level 6 parts was equilvelent to most of my level 7 with much less mass on then weapons/engines/caps...blah blah..blah

to give you an idea my x wing's set up had a mass of 96k mass (out of 98)

a wings are 65k so I had a serious problem when I went to switch. I reversed my engine /cap /blaster/reactor and managed to drop about 12k mass.
(only one slot on the a for a gun fo thats -15k there)
Also I never run front armor in my a had it in my x wing...but unless your destroying ships with gun turrets you really dont need it.

for even more mass savings try player crafter shields and armor ...it appears to be much better than what I have looted. a level 7 shield is about 1.7k front 1.9k rear and 11.2 recharge for 15k mass.

and armor is same 15k mass with about 1.5k armor points.
