Thread: Differences between the Y-Wing and the Longprobe Y-Wing
But I'm curious what is the difference between these two ships besides more mass.

I have the Y-Wing that I certified for at rebel pilot 1/1/1/1 but i dont recall it being a 2 person ship. I can fire the guns just fine.
Infact i dont know how the Y-Wing Longprobe would be different....hm.

Yes, you can fire one set of guns. But you have 2 hard points, and can't fire the other one without taking a friend with. He shoots the top turret.
In the Longprobe, the pilot can shoot both hard points.
Unless you always have a gunner around, the Longprobe is a must. Especially if you want to solo missions. The second gun mount will make your life much, much easier when grinding on up through Tier 2 and 3. If you are going to ditch the Y-Wing for an X-Wing as soon as possible, you might be able to get away with the standard Y-Wing. However, some of the Tier 3 Mission 1 assignments are absolutely brutal, so having the second gun might make the difference for you.
Personally, I love the Longprobe, and at 4/4/4/4 I am still using it happily.

Well, one downside is unless you have an awesome capacitor, that extra gun is going to overheat you a lot more often than you would have thought possible with the old Y-Wing, but if you get a solid burst of blows on an opponent who is stupidly flying straight then they don't last real long with the "Double-Barreled" goodness of 2 gun mounts.
At first, yes. But after you can get better components, you can get cannons that shoot for 3k+ damage, with only 14 energy/shot, and a capacitor that has 40+ regen. Then you'd be hard-pressed to drain that thing.
The Ywing is still a viable option, even at master.
The longprobe is the 2 seater meant for long distance recon missions.
I don't know why the devs switched it in beta, but oh well.
BTW the long probe is faster, slightly more manueverable, I actually used mine through tier II and 3 of the tier III missions.

Actually, I am pretty sure that the Longprobe is slightly LESS maneuverable, if you read the numerical stats. That being said, I still use it as my primary ship at 4/4/4/4. The Y-Wing is, in my opinion, the heaviest ship in the game that can still dogfight. For those of you that want to use a B-Wing but complain about the fact that it steers like a brick in a coma, you might want to re-purchase a Longprobe and equip it with high-end components. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Actually, I have to say that, sometimes, the numerical stats mean jack. The numerical stats in my Firespray show that I shouldn't be able to keep up with an Awing, yet I do. Good ol' EOL3 chip...

funny thing is according to SW Books the y-wing is the 1 seater

ya you are right i mean it does make sense longprobe that should mean the cockpit is bigger for another person and the regular ywing should be the one seater and if you play any other game that has the ywing in it they dont have another gunner in the back and they dont call it the long probe
