Is anyone up for yacht racing? You are guaranteed a fairer race, as none of the vehicles can be tampered with. Any interest out there?

Personally, I don't see a problem with modded ship racing either - if the devs would provide some courses or give us the ability to design them. The trouble is there's really not much to do for skill right now as far as space racing is concerned. Ground-based racing has terrain navigation to challenge the driver, but what is there in space? Asteroids don't even actually block your path unlike objects in the ground game.

I fail to see the point oif a race with just Sorosuubs... this ship is a snail
and all these "snails" would be perfectly same speed... exept for lag, wich will then determine the winner...
no fun.

Just about as exciting as Earthly sailboat-racing...

Personally I wish a lot more effort was put into racing. I don't mean just racing the clock, but racing against other players. There's enough going on in the game right now though that needs work and this isn't the time for me to lay out a racing proposal.

I'll race you... your SoroSuub versus my Nova Cruiser.
I should warn you, my Nova travels at a steady 830. Boosters bring it up to over 1040.

There's actually some great potential here for races, if you add a little bit of imagination. Instead of merely launching your yachts into space and hitting your boosters, why not construct contests where you have to land on planets, complete tasks, jump back into space and then move onto another planet?
I know some people will say you could do this with any ship, but the yacht presents some special attributes. First, you can have a multi-player ship without being a master pilot. Thus, you can set up contests that would require a group to complete. Second, the yacht is invulnerable, so there are no worries about getting attacked while in space. (This can be good an bad from a contest perspective).
A very simple example of what I mean: Multiple yachts take off from Coronet and launch into space after the teams run from a starting line to the spaceport to group and then launch. Once in space, the yacht pilots are given instructions by the contest moderator to fly to a certain waypoint or POI. A referee ship is waiting at the waypoint to determine the order of arrival.
Each ship, according to its order of arrival, is then given instructions to go to Tattooine, land in Mos Eisley, and go to the Lucky Despot Cantina, where they must find a player who will give them an item. They then must take that item back to the spaceport, load up again in space, proceed to another waypoint and another planet, etc., where they will give the item to another player who is waiting.
Anyway, you get the sense of where this is headed. There are many permutations of this idea that you could do to ensure that all group members have a reason for going and that it's fun. You could add puzzles and riddles to solve. You could require certain tasks be performed that require a certain skill set (slicing a locked container, for example, or crafting an object).
A simple yacht idea I am trying to get going on my server is what I call the Flurry Rebel Pub Crawl. Load up a yacht full of declared Rebels, plop down in various cities, go to the cantina long enough to have a drink and shoot the breeze, and then run back to the spaceport and do it again. The goal is to get to a cantina on every planet in one night without getting killedby Imps.
What do you think?

Lol. Ah, but that's part of the fun for the Imps, isn't it? You have to try to be in the right place at the right time.
In all seriousness, does this sound like something that could be fun for your side? I'm just trying to add a little spice to GCW stuff.

Actually I've wanted to do something like this for a while - agalactic scavenger hunt of sorts. Sorta like thatcorny 80's movie, Midnight Madness. I've been trying to come up with sub-games for the teams to have to go through, like riddles to solve, and such.
These are the kind of things where it'd be really cool if there were design software or /commandsso players could in a sense design their own questsfor this sort of thing (such as setting awaypoint that disappears when players arrive there- and it then triggers another event (another waypoint, a hud message, tells the game"master" who arrived at the waypoint, etc). I've heard for a long time that this was supposed to happen but I haven't heard about it in a long time.
It is possible to pull off something like this now, the trouble is it might betoo easy to cheat unless everyone knows who is and isn't supposed to be participating. For example, what if you just told the teams that they had to golocatea moisture farmer out in the Tatooine desert... (I'm such a cruel game master aren't I?
). There's nothing to stop the team (that should only consist of 6 players) from getting their entire guild to aid in the search. A design tool would allow the event's elements toonly be recognizable to the players/teams it's been setup for, and nobody else would be able to interfere.
