I am doing the rebel tier 3 mission 3?? (blacklight pirates in Endor space) and am finding that I am having some difficulties. The problem has been one of two things. 1) When I reach the patrol waypoint that finally spawns the blacklight pirate ships, there are already other tier 4 blacklight's in the area that immediately attack me as well (because I am too close to them) (which almost always seem to be tier 4 ships), or 2) the ships that spawn from the patrol point ar all tier 4 except for 1 of them. Now, as I said in the title, I don't mind a challenge, but scenario one goes well beyond that, when I am fighting 7 tier 4 and 1 tier 3 ship. Luckily this has only happened to me twice. Scenario 2 is different.
I don't mind the level of the ships. What the problem is, is that the tier 4 ships are cutting through my shield's like butter, wiping out well over half of the shiled value in one 1. This means on the second hit I am without shiled and down about 1/4 of my armor (front or rear, usually rear). The next 2 hits wipe out my armor and the next couple leave me waiting to be blown up, motionless in space. Currently, my shileds generate 1010 points, and my armor is around 1200 armor and 1150 hps on both the front and back. A group would be great, though I suspect that these ships would tear through even a 2 or 3 person group, seeing how they are decimating my current equipment in a matter of seconds. Now, I have been away from the game for a while, maybe my equipment isn't great, but it does seem to be around the best that I can get given my current cert levels (upto 7).
Any ideas here?

don't try it alone. and i think you picked the wrong box first, when you have problems with the 2nd mission of a tier. just an advice for all new pilots take the equipment box first befor you take the new ship, your new ship don't last long with the old shield.

I think your reply is quite valid, and it was one of the things I was wondering about. But I have the equipment box that comes in tier 3, so my equipment is as good as I can get. As a side note, I actually have shipwright as well and can make all my own tier 3 equipment (except maybe shileds, now that I think about it. I'll have to check). I am pretty sure that my equipment beats most of the crafted stuff out there, but again, I'd have to do a solid comparison.
I just realized, the original post should have read tier 3, mission 3, sorry.

If your shields are only generating 1010 pts front and back at tier III, then I think that particularly is your problem, I have lvl 4 shields that put out that much hp
Id suggest going to a lvl 7 shield (the crafted ones put out approximately 1800 front and back) which will serve you much better than that heavy armor. I usually use a Tier III shield (cert 7) and for armor front and back use Cert 5. The shields regenerate and your armor doesnt, so if you have to make a trade, go with shield HP over armor HP, also whats the damage output on your weapon? I use the reward gun, just a little over 3000 damage, but you should be ok with a lvl 7 crafted. If you have to sacrifice missiles, booster, armor etc to fit the gun and shield into your ship, then I would do it. you'll find you're a lot more successful this way =)

My wife is doing Vortex squadron as well and we ran into the same problem. I'm a 3433 Havoc squadron pilot and this was quite a challenge for both of us. The way we were able to complete it was to disable the engines on the tier 4 Blacklights then kill the mission spawns as fast as we could. You shouldn't try to solo tier 3 missions unless you are very good or you just can't find any help.

Thanks a ton for the replies guys. I may go in and grind out my cert 6/7 shileds in shipwright and bump that up. I actually am using the reward gun and 2 heavy weapons as well in an x-wing. The other missions in the tier I have been able to solo (took a few tries for each, but I did them). I may try and find some help for this one, the problem is finding someone, or someones who are around and available.

What server are you on? Id be glad to assist you with it if you need the help, or you could check the pilot helper list stickied at the top of the page to see if anyone there would be able to help ya

I'm actually on Bria. I will have a look at the pilot helper list. I just upgraded my sheild and added an advanced Ion cannon, so I'll have to see what that does. Woo hoo, blowin stuff up.

Xwing huh?
Definatly try for a MKIV shield. (L7, 1800 f/b).
Next ,look at your engine. You should be using an L6 engine with YPR in the high 60's low 70's . If your using a player made engine, ditch it.
After that, make sure your running all the droid commands. (RO3, EO3, CO3, WO3, CSTS 3 or 4).
If i was a rebel pilot still, id help you out, but ahh.. well i can't do that

Thanks for the info Ducimus. I will have a look at my engine, though I am pretty sure that it is not a player made one. In fact, if I remember correctly, I reversed engineered the one I am using and it's pretty sweet, but I need to check for sure. I will keep my eye out for a Mark IV shield. I made one that runs 1400 (that's approximate, as I am not in game at the moment, but I am pretty sure that it is around that level (could be high 1300's or low 1400's). Again, thanks everyone for the info. I also took some time and went and found some level 4 force assassins to practice against. Maybe that will help, maybe not, but just watching them blow up with my new advanced ion cannon combined with the reward blaster was tons of fun.

What im keying in, besides sheilds, is this:
>>when I am fighting 7 tier 4 and 1 tier 3 ship
Seven teir4's (asssuming you have Equipment 6 and 7 trained) shouldnt be a problem at all. (heh, wait tell you get a load of deepspace
)
1.) Shields. Theres only three shields i personally ever use.
MK III at about 1200 F/B
MKIV at about 1800 F/B
L8 reward shield. 2500 F/B
2.) Weapons. You have to kill quickly. Personnally i think you should have no less than at least three L7 blasters on that xwing at teir 3. Prefebly RE'd but player made if you HAD to. later on, id be squeezing in RE'd L8 guns. You should be able to fit AT LEAST two L8's and one L7 in that bird later on in teir 4.
3.) manuverablity and droid commands. If your YPR's high enough in an Xwing, it can turn at damn near the same rate is an A wing (offhand i think it takes an RE'd L8 engine to pull that off though), but again strive for an RE'd L6. Its like the baseline of engines in all ships. Capacitor Shunt to shield is more important to you as a rebel pilot because your ships profile is larger than say.. a Tie, so you will be getting hit a bit more. So you'll need a low delay droid controller.
Offhand i think you have too much armor though.. 1200ish? Thats Player Made MKIII armor plating i hope. If it were me id downgrade that to MK II and shove in an L8 RE'd reward shield later on.
