I doubt they can participate in PvP, right? What can freelance pilots do besides fly around?

They can, if you are a rebel/imperial on ground, you can fly as a privateer(freelance) pilot and fly toward a faction affiliated space station to go overt, ta da! You're now overt for your faction.

Yes they can...Freelancers can participate on there Respected Faction sides. Just go Overt.

AWESOME! That's just what I was looking for! I was hoping I could go overt Rebel in space, though flying my Privateer spaceship!
...this is a case that isn't really covered in the FAQ stickied at the top of the forum, either. =}
I mean, how else can someone bring a YT-1300 along with a Rebel strike force, other than going into Deep Space? (semi-rhetorical)
...but now another question:
Can said Rebel character, piloting Privateer ship, declare overt before heading into Kessel? (which normally would result in herbeing sided withher particular branch of Privateers?)
(if not, to the devs: can we please? =)

In beta at least when i went to deep space and kessel during the last week I was told to CHOOSE what side I wanted to fight for at the neutral station. Not sure what options there are if you are overt first (i.e. jumping to kessel/deep space from the reb station, etc).
