A little advice. I had some experience with the X45. Their method of retention are suction cups. I recommend industrial strength velcro. Suction cups fail (i.e. suck) at inopportune times, usually in the midst of a knifefight. If you want to get warranty-invalidating, open up the bases and put some lead weights in there to help gravity do its work.

Also, if you're buying a HOTAS system simply to play JTL, I have signed permission from Flight Simmers Anonymous to come to your house, gut you, and give your HOTAS to a person who would be more than willing to use the setup to its full potential. You should be getting a copy of Flight Sim 2004 at the very least, if at all only to acclimate yourself with a HOTAS setup (it's much, much, muchmuchmuch different than a single joystick, and you could benefit highly by not only practicing tandem usage of the system in a sim where no one's shooting at you).

First though - once you get it, spend about 10-15 minutes simply moving the joystick and throttle at the same time whilst pressing the buttons on both controls simultaneously. You need to have your mind able to control the actions of both hands at the same time. Being ambidextrous helps, but for others it can be humbling getting the hang of walking while chewing gum, talking on a cell phone, and dribbling a basketball at the same time.

A generally accepted rule by flightsimmers is, if you need to look down at your keyboard, and you've been using a computer for upwards of five years plus, you probably don't have the hand-eye coordination to handle a HOTAS system. The reason you're buying this is so that you can literally set your keyboard aside once you enter a flight environment. If you can't eventually factor it out of the equation given the amount of macros you can set up on a programmable system like the X45/X52/HOTAS Cougar, you probably wasted your money.

In that vain, lastly, keep your receipt. If you don't feel yourself getting the "hang" of it about two weeks in, return that puppy and go solo-stick. Some people just can't hack it without a keyboard.

I've currently got two setups - an FF2 Pro and a HOTAS Cougar. The FF2 is my stick of choice for JTL. This is NOT as difficult a ride as Lock On: Modern Air Combat, Flanker 2.5, IL-2, and Falcon 4.0 SuperPak4.

Additionally, if you have NO experience with flightsims whatsoever, DISREGARD and FORGET the names of the sims listed above. Without a proper primer you will end up tossing your computer AND your joystick out the window. Crawl before you run marathons.

I had a single hand joystick during beta and it had enough keys to completely get rid of keyboard during flight. The only time I used the keyboard was to talk to people. The reason why the joystick has to be replaced is because of something being screwy with the z-axis. Sometimes I wont even have my hand on the stick and my ship will start rotating very slowly. I calibrated it a bunch of times and for some reason the z axis got messed up.

Whenever I would move my stick to the left or right to yaw my ship always yaws and rolls and it has gotten quite annoying. Well tahts my story for wanting to replace.

I have this stick on pre-order in the UK. The release date was pushed back to the end of November, however I got an email a couple of days ago saying that the release was now Nov 11th, as with anything though its always subject to change (not thinking of any specific examples )

Is there anything that I can download (perhaps from Logitech) that would calibrate my joystick better than the Windows XP calibrater? I always seem to have bad luck with the XP one. By the way the joystick I got is the Logitech Extreme 3d pro. I really want to give this stick another shot becauase

1. Everyone else that has it says that its great

2. When I first bought the stick, it worked wonders
