Ok, I've been playing the JTL expansion for about a week now. I'm totally loving it. Best space/sim I've played, plus it's Star Wars

Now yesterday I login and there seems to be this odd lag, enemy ships are jumping around like mad when I'm trying to dogfight. Now and then my ship makes an odd movement. It's made it literally impossible to dogfight. I've tried everything I can think of:

rebooting, changing graphical options, etc. Nothing seems to help. I've even tried moving to a different server and it's still happening. I assumed it was lag but I'm on a superfast Cable network and I've never had a problem with lag before.

So I conacted CSR through the instant chat today and she tells me it's the joystick and other players have reported the same problem. She recommends I switch to using the mouse/keyboard or "find the "Consumer USB Human Interface Device" and at the very bottom "USB Human Interface Device" disable these and see if that resolves the issue."

I asked her what would cause this to happen all of a sudden when it was working fine the past week, she had no idea.

So I'm about to try the fix she suggested but I don't see it working since nothing has changed from a week ago. I really don't like playing with the mouse but if her fix doesn't work then I'll try that next.

I'm using an old MS Sidewinder Pro.

If everything fixes itself when I switch to the mouse then can anyone recommend a joystick they know works for sure?

Also, has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Many thanks in advance

Boy, CSRs will say anything to get someone to leave them alone.

There are numerous threads about the recent lag issues, both here and in the Pilot forum. Its a phenomenon related to the RotW expansion, new graphics in space, and increased server load. Nothing to do with your input device.

I had the same problem - all of a sudden it seemed like I had really bad lag. I ran all kinds of network diagnostics, but evetually worked out that it was caused by my Logitech force feedback joystick. If you unplug the joystick, and the problem stops, then you know that's what it is.

I tried a couple of fixes, but ended up taking the joystick back to the shop and exchanging it for another, and now the problem's gone.

Well, disabled the joystick and tried playing with just the mouse. Problem solved. no lag at all

Then I decided I wanted the joystick back so I re-enabled it and it's working fine now. No lag

So I have no clue what the deal is with that, lol. Apparently your joystick will just randomly poop and make space lag. Disable/re-enable and the problem is fixed. I toyed with a few other settings but I'm pretty sure it was disabling the joystick that worked. If it happens again I'll make sure to note exactly what solves it and post it here for others.

oddly enough, I did notice I seem to play better with the mouse, I was unstoppable! But I just prefer the "feel" of the joystick.
