I've been away from SWG for awhile and haven't really follewed the developement of JTL. But I'm intrigued by the idea of Star Wars space combat. Practically the first computer game I ever bought was the original LucasArts Tie Fighter.
I have a character I haven't played for awhile who is a master weaponsmith - master architect. Is there anything special I should think about doing to prepare for JTL? I don't enjoy the ground fighting game and would like to stay a craftsman while also fighting in space.
Should I drop architect and think about training one of the new space oriented crafts? Is there anything else I could do to get myself ready for the space game?

There is nothing you really need to do.
The space game doesn't require skill points for the pilot professions.
If you want to become a shipwright, you will need to expend skill points. You also might want to start stockpiling resources as ships take a lot. I'd check out some of the shipwright threads to see what you need. The Devs put some new resources in the game to make ships with.

Depending on your choice for pilot profession you might need to do parts of a themepark to get access to some of the higher tier NPC trainers. Smuggler's Alliance (Tat neutral pilots) have to visit Jabba's palace. Naboo-based Imp pilots have to visit the Emperor's Retreat. I know some of the rebel missions are given from Dantooine Rebel base. Those are the only things I can think of that might require some preparation.
And one more thing.... a big bankroll. Ships won't be cheap and you'll want to get out of your starter ship ASAP.

I know you are a crafter. If you have some spare skill points getting 4/0/0/0 TKA (for mediation) will help because you do take on alot of wounds and BF from space combat.
