Do we really need to have the 5 seconds of stop time when the hyperdrive is engaging?

I see no reason for this other than to give the NPCs and players a chance to easily blow us up.

This wasn't in the movies... the Falcon was moving when it hypered away from the Tie Fighters, so was the Reb battle fleet that attacked the Death Star... The X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, X vs Tie, Alliance, etc SW sims also allowed us to use the hyperdrive while moving. So why now?

There is no need to make us stop. The hyperdrive wait alone should be enough punishment. Once the calculations are made we should be on our way immediately.

I found this out a couple of weeks back and thought I'd share the knowledge for those who haven't already figured this out. You can get around the pesky 5 second stop when using hyperdrive by hitting your booster as the computer hits 100% calcuation completion. This will keep you moving the entire time right into hyperspace.

I try to not use my IFF transponder scramble for just such an occasion.

If things get bad enough for me to attempt a jump to safety, I'll start the hyperspace calculations and use the transponder trick to help keep the enemy off my back till I'm gone.

Emergency shield recharge is nice for this too. Usually start the calculations when it's apparent that I've walked into more than I can handle.
