Can someone explain to me some things about droids and piloting? These questions are probably answered somewhere in a booklet or FAQ or something, but I figure it's much less time consuming to just ask ane wait for a response. Here are my questions:
- I think I understand droid interfaces... they relay information from the droid to the ship and back again? and without one the droid won't function, correct?
- Why can my ships not use an astromech? Can only certain ships use astromechs? It would appear as if my ship has a hole in the top where the astromech would sit, but I am told I must use a flight computer instead.
- What is the difference between a v1 flight computer and a v3 flight computer? does the latter store more information?
Thanks to whoever solves this mystery for me.

I can't answer which ships are able to use Astromechs and which are not. I believe, though, that most Rebel ships can use them and that Imperial ships can not. I am CorSec Freelance and have only ever used Flight Computers (FCs).
The Droid Interface (DI) controls the length of the minimumtime between Programs. A lower Speed means less time to the next Program. Unfortunately, RE'ing DIs makes them worse as the highest Speed is taken instead of the lowest speed (and a Master SW can really mess it up because their bonus makes it even higher).
*Edit* 11.4 should have fixed this, DIs should be properly adjusted for the better when RE'd
Astromech or FC, you must still have a DI to run Programs. Make sure you load your Astromech or FC before you take off.
From now on I'm going to refer to FCs since they are what I know. The level of the FC controls how much storage space it has to hold Programs.A v6 that a Master can use holds 150 anda v4 holds 110 --use that as a start to what the scaling is for the rest.
The higher level the Program, the more space it takes. In general it is 5, 10, 20, and 25 spaces for the Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 granted Programs, respectively.
You can use the option on the FC to Program it to load any Program that you have been taught/granted from your Pilot skills. You can also Code a Blank Chip (Unprogrammed Droid Command Module)with any Programyou know to let any other Pilot use. A low level Imperial Navy Pilot can use a high level Alliance Pilot's Program if the Impgets a hold of the correct Reb Programmed Chip.
Once loaded into the FC, the Chip is destroyed. The Program can be removed from the FC to free up space, but can not be turned back into a Chip.
A good set of Programs can greatly enhance the ability of a fighter or multi-passenger ship. I use Weapon and Engine Overloads from Imperial Pilots, Shield Adjusts and Reinforcements from Alliance Pilots, and my own Reactor Overloads to keepthe ship'senergy level in check.
Happy Hunting (and Coding)

Only Rebel Ships use Astromechs, with the exeption of the A-Wing. All others use Nav comps.
Not so nice imho. I think at least all MP ships should use Astromechs.
