I select the space stations and press U to land(and to my understanding I have to go through the space station to get to the planet) but I always am denied landing. However, when I get close enough to the space station I get a telecom(I dunno what its called heh) asking if I want to land/repair/end conversation but I don't know how to select one of the options given to me? Is that how I land? if so what buttons do I press in order to select one of those options?
(Also, I joined the Corsec corporation, but I am thinking now that the smugglers would be better for me, can I switch and if so how?)
Thanks in advance.

Yep, you target a station using C, then / to communicate. When the options to land, repair and whatnot appear, press alt or alt gr to change mode, then just move the cursor over the option you'd like.

And to swich pilot faction.......
There is a Mon Calamarian in the Bestine Hotel. You walk into the hotel, turn left and he is behind the bar. You need to talk to him to "retire your statis as a pilot". Once you do that, go to the Mos Eisley cantina, walk into the enterence that is closest to the starport. Once everything loads go straight ahead into a door on what should be the right side of the bar. Inthere, there should be a pilot trainer named "Travis". Everything goes on from there. I can't remember the Mon Calamari's name and I am not IG now to find out.
Hope that helps!

Do you loose all your skill boxes when you retire from a pilot faction?

yes.
Also as a warning:
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE AN INSPIRATION BUFF WHEN YOU DROP A PILOT SQUAD.

Another warning: empty and deed all your ships before retiring a pilot faction group (rebel, neutral or imperial) or you won't be able to get your gear out.
