Let me put it to you this way: You dont even have to be covert to fly a marked craft. All you need is moola.


If you are Neutral on the groundyou can be:


  • Imperial Pilot

  • Rebel Pilot

  • Privateer

If you are Rebel on the ground you can be:



  • Rebel Pilot

  • Privateer

If you areImperial on the ground you can be:



  • Imperial Pilot

  • Privateer

You can only be one kind of pilot at any one time. You can gain faction points in space if you go Overt in space. To go overt, you approach a factionally aligned space station and ask to go overt.

It came down to a design change. The reason the devs changed it was because they want people to be able to have a broader choice of what kind of pilot they can be. They did not want to force someone to have to level up faction point wise on the ground to be able to fly. Some people will only buy swg to be apilot and have no desire to do any ground combat.

Then lets not tell them that they have to save their money on the ground before they can afford a player made ship.
