not really sure, since I dont have it ...
but it sounds like overclocking a pc ...
just boosting the speed maybe ?

when in space you your fisrt icon on bar in lower left corner changes from map (which is now second icon) to 1 that gives stat's on your ship pitch yaw roll etc.
look at the reactor info now close click on reactor overload and open that screen back up what are stat's on reactor now?

i dont know wth he just typred....
anyways the reactor overload skill is a pilot trick..us imperial pilots get a nebula blast 3 bomber strikes emergency weapons and pumpreactor ...now you can find this info out just by reading the damn name of the pilot skill icon in the space menu..of the abilities menu
just waite till you get a reactor shut down..you'll post abut that asking why did this happen real soon like

It's not a pilot trick it's a flight computer program that does absolutely nothing. Freelance Pilots got the shaft on flight computer programs. We get only one and it doesn't do jack.

yeah it isn't a pilot trick it's a droid command. I have ehtrust for a trick and i know what that does.

Reactor Overload, is a droid command. What its suppose to do is provide extra reactor generation rate. If its like the other commands a light reactor overload might give an extra 10%-25% reactor generation rate over what it normally can pull. The down effect I believe my put some stress on the armor which is like condition.

Problem is, the extra reactor generation rate doesn't DO anything.

I'm a fairly new pilot, and was unsure about this. The text in the box says "at the risk of overstressing it." Is this really something to worry about or is it just flavor text? I haven't used it often, as I haven't really needed to yet. I've never encountered a problem with "overstressing."

Well, reactor overload puts out 10%/lvl of power above normal operations, but causes (3-5) points of damage to Armor Points as well.
What happens is that if your engine takes 25% or more damage, you get lowered effectiveness, instead of higher.
This happened to me once.
This happened to me once.
The other thing is a "random" factor where you get a "power spike" - also seems to occur on lower Cert reactors running too high of a Reactor Overload.
This also happened to me once.
This also happened to me once.
So, yes, I suppose it's possible "any time", but it's so rare I wouldn't fret over it.

It does some minor damage to the reactor each time you use the command. I think overload 3 does around 20 damage to the hitpoints. So, if you use it, try to avoid repairing unless everything else needs repairs to help keep the decay down. That said, it will end up shortening the lifespan of your reactor by having it need repairs more often. But, its worth it.
Reactor overload is great on its own if you are using more power than your reactor can provide. But, its real advantage is when used in conjunction with traded imperial commands: Weapon/Engine overload. A reactor overload 3 or 4(depending on how much power the components need) can compensate for the increased power draw when you use Engine and Weapon overload 3 or 4.
So, basically you can use reactor overload with those other two commands to make your ship faster and weapons more damaging at all times. Again, this will damage all the components a bit when you use the command. About 10 to 30hp per command use depending on the level of the command.

I thought The repair done when you use the overloads doesn't effect decay.

From lvl 1-3, it does not, unless you suffer additional damage.
