Doh! To sorta answer my own thread, and help anybody else who stumbles in here, the Pilot forum has some information.

Hi,
I just browsed this JTL forum and FAQ and there doesn't seem to be a guide for new players. Can somebody point me to a guide or offer some advice for new JTL players? I played the Beta and it was quite confusing, and by now there should be some good advice as to which skill boxes or trees to climb first, tips for outfitting ships, etc.
Thanks
Mien

Here's a tip...
Higher-level ships are not always better. In fact, the tier 1 Dunelizard in the neutral line is one of the best ships in the game. If you're going neutral, stick with it, keep upgrading it, and you will go far
On a related note, the Y-Wing sucks. Badly. I used a Z-95 into Tier 3 and did better with it >_<
