I new to JTL and i started out as a privateer, and so far the 3rd (escort) mission has its quirks, i finally got around them, but now on the 4th mission, which is kill the ace pilot (black sun), i think its bugged too.
It goes like this, I get the ace down to around 50%ish shield and armor, and the ace all of the sudden hyperjumps, or atleast looks liek he does. I watch jump out of sensor range and he doesnt come back, the mission doesnt give me a failed message or anything until i land, then it says i abandoned the mission.
I have waited around for around 5 mins to see if he comes back, and going the last direction he was going in. This happens over and over, or atleast 3x exactly the same manner. Always happens when he's at 50%ish shields and armor *half dead*. It is also around 15mins into the fight, but i dont think that has anything to do with it...
Annoyed for like the 5th time today with this games bs, i tried to leave the privateer tree and it says i have to do that at my pilot trainer, and the piloting trainer doesnt give me options for that yet. He even hasnt let me train my skills yet, and im still doing the initate missions.
Oh I am SO annoyed..
Any thoughts?
did create a ticket, but with the ticket traffic right now i dont expect a quick response. Till then its back to land, unless someone can think of something.

The message that pops up when you try to drop pilot skills shouldn't tell you to talk to your trainer. It does offer to give you a waypoint to the person you do need to talk to. As you're a Privateer, that would be Gil Burtin in the Bestine Hotel.

I'm afraid I can't offer any help with the mission though (unless you're on Chimaera) as it's one of the bugs I've yet to come across.

Som eof the missions have time limits, if it's taking you 15 minutes and he's only down to half, maybe you should look into getting some better guns or some overload programs to take him down faster. Or the end all be all of answers: Get someone to help you

believe me, my tactics are just fine, and i tried that "slowing down and letting him come to me" along time ago, i didnt work, he just flew circles around me, still never coming within 100meters (i cut my engines completely and was sitting dead in space). He never fired a shot at me, of course i only sat there for a minute, cause i didnt want to waste to much time.
I didnt say everything the first time, because i could write a whole page on the subject. Listen , i could pound on the steadily (hitting with every shot) and watch his shields regen at the same time, the sometimes i hit him with 1-3 shots and he goes down a quick 6%. Its a poorly written AI to me..
but like i said i did go out and spend 25k for protons on this level1 ship and for a 1k? credit mission. I went out killed of his escorts (pop them in about 10sec) and then began to lay into him with blasters and protons. After my pack of 10 protons was out he was at like 13% shields and around 80%armor. Thought oh well took 10 protons but i might have him this time, but continually laying spread of blaster fire (as much as i could, till they needed to recharge) he regened back up to 50% shields, but got his armor down to around 50% at the same time.. just when i thought he was going to buck out, he slows downs for the first time and LETS me on him (or some lucky shot on his engines) and 5-10 shots take him from his 50s/50a stats to finally killing him..
There is no way a newbie pilot on the 4th mission should have to go by protons for a 1k mission, its a lame excuse for a AI imo..
but think what you want.. (since your so uber)

That was uncalled for. I was just trying to give you some advice, based on what you had written, and based on the fact that I have completed this exact mission in rookie ships 6-7 times without resorting to the measures you describe, or blaming the AI. Excellent first impression you've made, snapping at the helping hand.

might have been uncalled for, but i was very aggervated and didnt need some smart remark like im not being tactical enough, i do believe its a bug from the cu or additions from rotw, cause ppl would have already fussed about it.
I tried all sorts of tactics ranging from trying to head towards the spot in front of him to get closer, cuting engines (he still did circles and didnt fire once on me, nor the whole mission did he fire on me), to buying a booster to get closer to him ( he always stayed 100m+ away from me, then the final thought of buying missiles and 10 shots and a extra 10min of firing on him and i still BARELY beat him, like i said he slowed down (never done it before) and let me get close, almost like he gave up.
You've done it 6x since the upgrade? done it at all since the upgrade?
and still your post tries to belittle me, like the first

It might be a time limit, but the reason i thought it wasnt cause its only a novice mission. It shouldnt take two people two take him down. Im only certified for the first ship, it doesnt have much mass capacity for more armament, and shouldnt need it. I did go out and buy a proton launcher and a couple proton packs, havent tried them yet, the server went down and i took a break.
The thing is the 4th novice mission shouldnt be that hard, the ace does nothing but run in circles the whole time, its hard to even get within 100 meters of him with the ship. I actually think the fight is rigged, i notice his shields regening while im steadily pounding on him, and then sometimes his shields go down by 6% when i just hit him a couple times. Maybe they just have a cheating AI to make it fun, i hate when someone cant make a decent ai and cheat to make hard.
off to try my protons... spend 25k on protons for most likely a 1k reward..
lame

It doesn't take two people or extra firepower, you just need to practice, or adjust your tactics so it takes you less time. If you're having trouble chasing him and scoring hits, then slow down and let him charge you. I recommend flying with no mission a few times, and practicing your aim, but changing tactics is just as good.
Changing squads won't matter. All the intro missions and ships are pretty much the same, except for the targets.

Ok the 2 of us here have each killed him once solo, in a wholly unmodified starter shipjust got the expansion).I fear the trouble is in your tactics, based on a statement about "firing ahead of him" part of the targeting computer shows a crosshair that floats (generaly ) ahead of the target, there is a dot in the center of the said crosshar that you need to have (as close as possible) lined up to the fixed dot in the center of your targeting crosshair - it took us some time to figure this out but this floating crosshair is the targeting computer's best estimate of leading the target, experimentation has shown us that although you can pound awayon a target and watch it's shields "light up" you are doing minimal damge - fire with the dots perfectly aligned and you can 3-4 hit the heavy fighters - about 8 on the pirate captian - though his flying ability makes it hard to keep things aligned. try this on a ship that is disabled (sometimes a ship goes dead in the water and when you match speed it is a dead stop) aim at another part of the shields and blast away - watch the stats as you do this, with starter guns you do 1-2% a hit, nowalign the crosshairs, even though it looks like you are leading the still ship. you willtake out 10-30% on each hit. Think head shot. (sadly enough it was my never-fired-a-gun-IRL, never-played-a-flight-sim-game wife who figured this out and let me know)
hope this helps, now just don't use these skills against me in PVP
