From what I can tell, this bug has been mentioned before, and dates back to ROTW beta.
Whenever I try to mine with the Y-8, nothing happens. I've tested the Y-8 compared to the aggressor, and got a full hold with the aggressor in about 30 minutes. With the Y-8, nothing happened, plain and simple. I tried rotating the guns around and such, but still nothing. If it's a mistake on my part (my main hope, at this moment) then please, anyone just tell me what I'm doing wrong, so I can fix it.Though it does seem to me like a bug. Everything seems normal for my Y-8, except this.
The Y-8 is an awesome ship though. One of the best in the game, in my opinion

i don't know about anybody else but i'm having the same problem as you dude. just got my Y-8 and nada, the bloody thing doesn't work with that Class II mining laser. maybe there is a larger mining laser that is supposed to go on this thing? i gotta ask a shipwright about it.

i juse class III for mine and it works but it's rly hard to see wat ur shooting at zoomed in or zoomed out

The forward firing weapon is currently bugged. It doesn't do any damage and can't be used to mine at the moment.

Though I don't have my Y-8 yet, I helped a buddy get his... and he can't drop anything inside it. It's a real shame, 'cuz its beautiful inside. Is this intended (I hope not) or is it a bug (what are the odds?).

same /bump cant drop andy thing and if you have two multi player ships before you use this you have to empty out one before you can fly this.

Just got mine and not impressed with the bugs and other things.
Cant drop anything in it
Cant see anything from the pilot seat because of the window frame
Still have to chase after the chunks of rock, easier in a fighter. The Y-8 should be able to extract the ore directly from the asteroid or something so it's useful.
It manouvers better than the other MP ships, not like a huge slow mining ship, so it doesn't feel right for it's size. It should be the slowest for turning and speed out of all ships by a long way.
Cant apply texture kits to it
No components are visible
As with other MP ships, there is no advantage in using them, they are all as weak as a fighter and you need a crew to operate them, which means they are totaly impracticle, all MP ships should be much much tougher than any fighter.
Why doesnt the ore you mine in it get dropped inside the ship in those cargo holding rooms on the bottom floor? It means you have to keep docking to empty the cargo hold into your inventory, again makes it very inpracticle and a waste of time.
Very poorly thought out, did anyone test this ship at all??

i got the bug that doesn't let you drop items aswell, asked a CSR it's a bug, devs need to push a bug fix out soon a lot of bugs in ROTW.

Curious if any of the new ships are working as they're supposed to...
- Y8 can't mine.
- Y8 can't drop items in it.
- Royal Guard TIE can't load Flight Computer
- Can't redeed new ships
- Y8 turrets acting funny
- I've heard of issues with the ARC-170 and Hvy XWing as well.
- Royal Guard TIE mission gave me a REBEL badge! (Weird!)
- There are many more I haven't listed... Dev's? Hello???
