Thread: Space Mining ???
GameMan2k wrote:I want to start Space Mining, what do I need to do, are the space mining missions on kashyyyyk just for shipwrights or for everyone?I have not seen any space mining equipment on the vendors yet, is this because SM is too new, and will I have to complete a SM misssion in order to be able use the equipment once it's available?
Equipment will be quite a while getting to vendors I should imagine as the mining lasers and other space mining equipment require asteroid resources!!
You can, however, get equipment through a series of quests from Kyshyyyk that start on the first level of the big tree.
There are several quests to complete (no ground based ones appart from speaking to the quest dudes) as you progress you will be given equipment for mining, eventually leading up to actually getting a deed for the New Y-8 mining vessel.
Note tho, one of the quests involves a pretty intence space escort, that starts in the normal way, a couple of fighters attack and waves increase in sizes as you progress, but the waves DO come in pretty fast. Tier 3 ships. I'm master freelance in a Kryat and started to panic when I saw !! Got through it okay tho, just remember to put your combat weapons back on ship prior to launch for that mission (A fair chunck of the missions involve mining - like you'd expect)
Good Luck

Thank you so much for your 'helpful' reply, I wish more people on these forums would only reply to a post if theyhad something useful or helpful to say.
I assume you get basic mining capabilities/equipment in the early easier missions, and the Y-8 vessel is forthe later harder missions and for advanced pilots?
Thx again
Thats right...you can do the first few missions pretty easy , not facing anything over tier 3's and get you ship equiped with the mining lasers, cargo hold and a tractor beam...plus doing the quests gets you a few thousand in various asteroid resources....
I must admit , it was a good, well balanced series of quest...and FUN ![]()
Some of the later missions...like the escort and destroy ones...you may want to get some help on if you are not Tier 4, they get pretty intense ![]()

Agreed.
When you come to the escort Mining vessels stage of the quest, equip your combat weapons it does get quite intence.
I kinda started to panic when I saw "Target Destroyed 15 Target(s) Remain". This panic comming from someone who eats Rebel Corvettes for breakfast on a table for one!!

I loved that escort mission...
Only thing better is hitting a wasps nest with a short stick.
Though they should have been T4 or T5 Pirates not T3 would have been more fun that way.

/agree
I suppose you share my wish to make destroy duties last forever and end up fighting huge waves offighters?

Do you have to have the ROTW expansion to do "space mining"?
Agreed ..This was an excellent mission...totally immersed in the combat...shooting up one batch, then boosting as quick as possible to take on the next...very intense..even tho no real danger to me...It FELT like you and your convoy were in trouble...Great fun...and yep..we need more missions like this

That escort mission is one of the best in the JTL game so far I think. Just the overall ambience of flying in and around those huge Y-8 mining ships chasing very fast-spawning waves of pirates really captured the TRUE Star Wars space experience. Despite the fact that tier 3's pose no threat to me, I still count it as one of my favorite missions so far.
Actually the only thing better was when I helped a friend do it and someone we didn't know started their mission at exactly the same time. SIX Y-8 ships were flying in tight formation with small clouds of pirates coming in to attack us! Sure we could only attack our own mission targets, but like I said: The ambiance was truly fantastic.
We need more of that type of thing in JTL
wow ... intense never crossed my mind.
.... I guess if you storm squad think of this as half as hair-raising as your tier 3's
....honestly though, when I did it with my privateer as well it was that much easier, each fighter was dead in one pass with the 3 blasters you can mount in a Ryk. I guess they did kinda spawn fast, but the Y-8's were all tier 3 (or 4 ... not sure) so they should fare well.
At the same time I did very much enjoy the mission itself, escorting those Y-8's was an entirely different feel than the tired old transports.
The jedi starfighter was also a blast to do (the space part), the ground part was way buggy. The mobs you need to kill spawn in walls and area's you can't reach etc.
The Kashyyk station missions were decent ... though my reward is borked. I'm an Imperial ground, Imperial pilot and I got "Here's your shiny new Imperial guard TIE ! ... and here's your shiny new badge so you can fly it! (You have recieved the Heavy X-wing Badge!). Ten hours now and no CS response.
Anyway when you get your Y-8 don't get too excited just yet ... it's ... you guessed it .. pretty buggy.
The ship itself is nice. But it's a serious pain to mine with, your better off in a fighter. Basically you can only actually mine if the mining laser is in the pilot controlled gun, not the turrets. The limited turret arcs make catching anything with a tractor beam from those turrets a 50/50 prospect. You bassically have to chase down the asteroids in the Y-8 just like you have to in your fighter, the only difference is you have to have other people with you watching you fumble around. Oh .. and it's bugged so it can't be decorated, the only piece of furniture I can put in it is the new lounge vet reward. Sucks too, I loaded up a whole bunch of droids to man those empty consoles, had a real "mining ship" theme assembled and had to pack up and go home cause it won't let me place anything. This is also after emptying out my yacht because you can apparently only have 2 multiplayer ships with anything in them, if you have 2 decorated you cannot even use a third to travel.
