Thread: PvP mission system for JLS

This is an idea on how to add PVP missions into JLS, which is somewhat modelled after the BH/Jedi ground system.

It works like this:

A master pilot has access to a new level of missions from special ground NPCs:

Imperial/RSF/Corsec/Rebel:

- Complete a hard mission, get approved for 'special ops' pilot missions

Privateer Smuggler:

- Complete hard mission, become accepted as a go-to guy for an elite cartel of smugglers that have their own agenda and operatives within the valarian and jabba groups.

The 'complete a hard mission' is basically a generic quest mission like all the others, but the mission you are cleared for from then on are very different.

These missions, aren't the classic 'get mission, go do it' missions. You get a special comm device added to your datapad. When you activate it, you are able to get special missions while in space. When they transmit a mission, could be between 10 minutes or 60, so you pretty much activate it, go do your spawn hunting, help people on pre-master missions etc, and wait to be called upon.

You get a transmission, and you can accept or reject the mission offered. Most privateer missions, are based on smuggling and transporting items, running blockades, raiding a mining operation, that sort of thing. Sometimes they are patrol missions, recon missions, but mostly smuggling in nature. Imperial and rebel missions, and RSF/Corsec are genereally 'kill the other faction' duty missions or defeat gathering battle groups, kill a defector (nice to get to fight your own ship types sometimes), protect a mining operation, get into a huge battle fleet, run recon (scan 10 ships) and H out alive.......the mission ideascan be anything but it would be nice if they are a bit more unqiue. Lets get some large asteroids with stationary structures to blow up, with massive shields and turrets. Depots and mining outposts like this would be really fun to hunt.

When you get one of these missions and accept it, you can land and take off, but the mission has a timestamp you must complete 'checkpoint 1...2....3' by. If you are killed, you fail.

Now, where it gets interesting, is that when you get this comm device, you can also select 'bounty missions' as missions you are informed of. Whenever you go into space with the device active (allowing you to get missions) other players can get missions to hunt you. If you are a rebel, you may get an 'Imperial Special Ops Agent detected in Endor sector', or 'Smuggler aiding the Empire detected in Datooine System' hunting missions, and your device will help you track your enemy.

When you first sign up, you have to pay 200k for the comm device, and destroy it if there is any risk of it falling into enemy hands. If you die, its destroyed.

The actual missions, pay decently, and bounty missions pay 100kish, so it is not worth prey/hunters to team up to trade kills.

Its worth noting: You do not need to be on a mission to be hunted, just have your device on, that lets you able to receive missions.

I would like to see some sort of special faction point system, but that may be pushing it dev wise. You'd have your normal faction name with 'special ops' added to the end, and as you complete missions/agent kills, you gain faction points, if you die or fail, you loose them, and get paid less and get lower quality missions.

It would be cool too, if PvP kill statistics and special faction standings where saved for a type of difficulty/notoriety level rating, that may be factored into payout and availability to pilots (need higher faction standings to go against more notorious pilots.)

I think, if you had a group together, only the group leader would get the missions, payouts would be split, and each participant would have to be a special operative. It would be best if you could have mixed pilot types, as long as all the pilots shared the same ground faction orneutral status. Each member of the group would have to have the comm device, have it on, but only the leader would get missions, but each would be at risk of being out 200k for dying. Big difference from ground BH hunting, is each member of the group doesn't need a mission against the same person. Your comm device should be able to tell you if the mark you are hunting is partied in a group, since that is rather important information when hunting in space.

Additionally, maybe a command to 'scan' a player ship, and send the data over your comm device to see if there is a bounty on them. If there is, you can choose to activate that mission - though it could not go active until you are way out of range (to prevent getting a kill mission 10m away.)

When a ship with a mission on you enters scanner range, you should get a system message saying 'a suspicous craft has entered your scanning range' or something, to try to get rid of 'who the he-??' kills.

Also, if you shut down your device, you are huntable until you return and land - so seeing a group on your tail can't be cheated out of their bounty on you by last second deactivation. Of course, deactivating the device will end your missions in progress, and if you are killed while the device is inactive, you do not have to rebuy it.

This would:
A) give masters something to do.

B) add cost/reward to PvP for those who want to seek out PVP.

C) Get people out into space and let PvPers find each other.

D) Add a level of missions PvE that include the risk of being huntable and PvPable.

What do people think? Good idea? Bad? Ugly?

Sounds like a great idea.

Course, I think the whole GCW could be made similarly. Rebel missions are to attack specific Imperial bases. Imperial missions to to defend against Rebel attacks and attack specific Imperial bases, etc.

Have them on timers or something... and adjust the amount of NPC toons that join based on how many player toons there are. Give players command (based on rank) of the toons under them.

Same system for space.
