I'm wondering if their is currently any financial reasons to pick up piloting....
I mean, I'm going to be putting quite a bit of money into this professions (more than I have for ANY groud professions), but those all have given me a positive cash flow. I'm YET to see any means of money here..... Will it be like the ground and will you have ship-mission terminals and will you be able to try to smuggle things along the Kessel and Correlian Run for pocket money? Will I be able to get a group and take down a Corvette for some desent money?
Someone, please tell me I'm making money here

Unless you manage to find buyers for loot components you collect, which will be quite hard since everyone and their pet Wookiee will be in space, looting more or less the same things - not likely. The crafted ship component costs will be quite substantial, especially when you count in the decay, so I'm somewhat afraid that space will turn into a money sink for the ground economy.

look at it this way, if you could make plenty of money is space that would take alot away from the ground game.
we dont want everyone spending all their time in space

So is space going to be one big money sink?!
You would think it could at least pay for itself (parts, ships, droids, etc....) but I guess that would be too much to ask...

Hmmm.
I spent 3 hours in space the other night and ended up with a credit chip worth over 180,000 credits. I had a blast doing it and was suprised when I got back down to the planet and looked in my inventory to see that much.

In beta I was profiting by around the end of tier 2. Its a bit of a cash sink at first, kinda in the region of 200k I worked out. But by the end of the 2nd tier was probably got an income of about 400k. Ok that was beta and buying ships off shipwrights was free, but at this time I was using components looted. Nothing else but looted bits. And all the excess looted bits was being given away so could in normal game possibly make some more cash there. But looted cash and mission cash wasnt too bad at all in space. Not amazing, but definatly enough to live on
the only big thing partically in the beginning will be the finding of resources and the cost of the ships with the usual insane over charging which will happen in the beginning as we all experienced with cars and bikes. Once it calms down it shouldnt be too bad though.

I was making a profit on tier one escort missions. Every successful transport yeilded a couple thousand credits. Not to mention, every ship I destroyed yeilded a credit chip. Repairs aren't that expensive if bought at the local space station.
If you are expecting the space game to provide cash above what is paid on the ground, then you'll be disappointed. However, an experienced player will be able to keep their ship in decent order from their exploits in space.

They do drop credits. The amount of credits dropped is scaled to the difficulty of the enemy, much like the ground game.
