If you join a side as a pilot is there any way to switch later on? So if you choose to fly for the Imperials can you later switch to neutral?

Yeah, but you lose all your xp, skills, and ship certs. You basically hafta start from scratch.

It would be no different than changing any other skill. If you want to change than you have to give something up. All you are left with are the memories.

ah but theres no cross templating as a pilot, you can't have a few branches from privateer and a few from imperial..right?

Nope, you can only be one pilot prof at a time and when you drop the skill you loose all you xp.

Simply put, if you want to switch factions, play a neutral pilot. You are limited to neutral missions, but you can declare for one side or other in the PvP zones or at the faction stations. You still couldn't take factioned missions in space, but at least if you decided to become a Rebel when you were Imp, you don't lose all your pilot skills.
