Thread: Ideas for Becoming a Master Pilot
Disclaimer : Yes I am at work, bored and have spent way too much time thinking about this, and no I haven't read all the post on the subject so apologies for any redundancy.
It seems the biggest problem with reaching Master Pilot is the having PVP and PVE elements involved at the same time. In time it takes for PVE kill in space you could be killed several times over in PVP from what I have seen. It seems it would be near impossible to complete any PVE mission if anyone nearby wanted to engage you PVP at the same time. I can see a lot of frustration and people feeling others are intentionally griefing, while the griefers in question may feel they are simply having fun in the open PVP zone. Removing the missions from PVP areas would help resolve this but would take away from the accomplishment of reaching master pilot and maybe even make it too easy for some.
In order to keep both elements involved in becoming a master they could keep the missions as they are except move them to non-PVP areas. Then also have a PVP kill requirement to unlock the master box once the missions are completed. You would need to tally an appropriate number of kills before qualifying. Yes you are still forced to PVP in this situation but if you want to reach master pilot then I would think PVP is really the only meaningful combat that is left at that level. The advantage is your kill tally would not have to reset a death so you could work on it at your own pace and no more frustration at having to complete a mission and suddenly finding yourself in a PVP battle. This way you could also be sure anyone in the PVP zones is there for a fight so everyone could relax an bit and have fun !
I understand that some people are 100% against PVP and may think its unfair to have any PVP requirements for professions but the JTL is really a separate game. Its a twitch based FPS type game which is specifically designed around the PVP endgame in my opinion. Is there really a point to being a master pilot other than access to all the available ships if you have no intention to PVP ? To resolve that issue a possible solution would be to make the ships available in tier 4 boxes and move the higher equipment level certifications to the master box. Possibly have one ship , like the Firespray, only available in PVP ? Even if you don't think it fair to have anything restricted from non-PVP players surely there can be some compromise that the majority of people could live with ?
I like the idea of fast and furious PVP in space and having the option between the twitch based space game and turn based ground game. There will need to be some tweaking here and there to improve PVP in space overall but in my opinion too many changes to PVP in space , like damage reductions, and you end up with more of the same. The best way to make the most people happy is to have as many options out there as possible. Is it really a bad thing to have some different content available that is based on the preferred style of play if it can be done in a way that doesn't create unreasonable restrictions on people based on their prefered style of play ?
Just my thoughts , flame away or share your own ideas.
