Thread: The Y-8 Mining Ship wins award for worst ship at mining!

The Y-8 mining ship was poorly designed and needs an overhaul. Here is my argument:


The Y-8 Mining ship has 3 weapon slots.One for the pilot,one for a top/front gunner andone for a bottom/rear gunner. Each person can only use one weapon slot at a time.To mine effectively, you need to use a mining laser and a tractor beam, each taking a weapon slot. So you're left with 1 weapon slot for a real gun to defend yourself with.


Howcan a crew of one mine?


- He has to load the mining laser into the pilot's weapon slot and will not be able to use the tractor beam or a real weapon if attacked. So you're left with inefficient mining capacity and very poor defense.


How can a crew oftwo mine?


- The pilot would control the mining laser and the top/front gunner could tractor in the pieces. This still leaves you relatively defenseless against high tier enemy aggro.


How can a crew of three mine?


- Since only two weapons can point forward, the pilot and top/front gunner have to do the mining. The third person could sit in the rear/bottom turret (with a real gun) but would be ineffective in taking out enemy ships (the pilot would have to always stick the arse of the ship at the enemy, LOL)


Add to this that the pilot can't even issue droid commands. You need someone sitting at ops, or you can jump out of the pilot chair mid-flight, run to ops, issue the command, run back to your pilot chair.The non-hideable cockpit is also a huge obstruction/annoyance for the pilot. Yes, I really want steel beams blocking my view of thetinyasteroids I'm trying to blast.



How can I convince a handful of people todo boring space miningfor a couple hours a day to help me operate this inefficient barge?


- Beats me.


In conclusion, The Y-8 is probablythe most poorly designed mining ship ever conceived by mankind. An X-wing can out-mine the mining ship hands down.


Recommendations:


1. Allow us to hide the cockpit of the Y-8 like we can for other ships.


2. Add two more weapon slots for the pilot to use, so this ship can be used by a single person effectively. The pilot could then control a mining laser, a tractor beam, and a weapon (like we can do in an X-wing!). The top gunner (if you have one)could still help tractorpieces in, or help fight off enemy ships. The rear gunner can help fight off ships, or he can run around and fix leaks, or man ops if needed.


3. Give the Y-8 a 100k unit cargo hold. This ship is made for mining. It's huge. Heavy. Enormous. Gigantic. It should be able to hold moreore than an X-wing.


4. Give the Y-8 a production yieldbonus. Maybe a 2x multiplier for units of resource obtained. If an X-wing would get 20 units for tractoring in that rock, then the Y-8 should receive 40 for the same rock using the same mining laser/tractor beam. It's a mining ship, it should be more efficient!

There must be 900 threads on this already, but i'm going to put into this one what i put into every one...


All pob ships are just about worthless... there's no justification to take 4 people out of starfighters and put them into 1 pob ship... for even "MAYBE" (and it's a stretch) double the damage and staying power...


fact is, pob ships are bigger, slower, less maneuverable, and they take 4x more people to operate than a starfighter...


Solutions:


  1. 2 guns per turret

  2. 1 capacitor per turret

  3. triple or quadruple shields

  4. triple or quadruple the armor

  5. wider swath of the blaster bolts... bigger hit zone

  6. turret tracking vector stays vectored while pilot is turning (see planetside turrets... another game by soe)

Heh, I feel your pain, the worse is that I cant even mine... I hit the asteroids for hours and not even a chunk... I try to land, come back up, I even hyper around the galaxy to reset the asteroids, and nothing.


Am I doing something wrong? Im using the mining laser II as the pilots gun obviously, and the only reason I use this ship is because of the 5k cargo hold, any advice?

I wish the DEVs would read this post as this would make them viable in PVP.... BUT PVE they would ROCK to the point of disgust. Doing all this would make PVEing in these ships the way to go for those that have weak ships and wish not to invest in a weak ship until teir 2 or 3. I agree with the poster that multiplayer ships should be looked at again.

what about POB flight computer only commands like engin to shields/weapons this reduces the engin speed by say 60% and pumps all the power to the shields giving 50% more shield power, and a 10% increase in recharge.

weapon overload 4 FIXED for POB ship only increasing the dmg by a +100% making each hit twice a damaging as normal. (this would mean 4k dmg would hit for 8k a peace and give better damage to smaller ship *cough eta-2 cough a-wing*

cruze control so pilots can actualy take part in shooting stuff like in the movies.
