Thread: a path to a full 3D Star System ?
In space, when my starship move I can see my ship is not at the same place from the planet !
The planet seems to be a true 3D suface.
Ok, ok, it's not a full 3D star system like "Elite Frontière" or a false Star system like Freelancer but, it's better than a stupid "fix" image.

Full 3D star systemswould beincredibly boring, since they'd be 95% empty and it would take literally ages to go from one planet to another at sublight speeds.
For a game like EVE Online this is great, since it's all about exploring. But SWG isn't.

I beg your pardon. The Ranger proffesion is all about exploring. SWG has many aspects to it. Exploring is not a primary goal of the game, but it is there.

Ok, let me rephrase: There are no incentives to cover vast spaces of nothing in theJtL part of SWG.
Not even the existing space POIs offer anything for the explorer, I doubt the same POIs only with 10^10000 the distance between them would be any better.
While I can understand why you might think that, other games have done it successfully. Freelancer is one thatI can attest to personally, and others speak highly ofthe aforementioned Eve.
People don't have to be bombarded with content every second anyway, there is nothing wrong with having a little timesink in flying around a sector. It is supposed to be space afterall, not the "box o' fun". Not only that, but with the new capital ship stuff that was announced recently I would imagine the devs will have to make the sectors bigger because right now you can only cramabout1 star destroyer inside one.

Your points are all valid, and I agree that space zones should be larger, but my point still stands:
Why would you want to fly through nothing for ages ony to find, well, nothing?
In EVE, exploring solar systems is a form of art.Your sensorsgive you a pretty good idea what could be in a certain system, and if you know how to read them right, they'd give you the general direction. Getting there is a challenge and could take several hours. Mapping an average sized solar system takes days. But the whole ordeal is very rewarding. Often you'd find nothing, but sometimes you'd come across a pirate haven, or some rare asteroids, or even a 'safespot', somewhere other players park their ships and cargo containers. And you could of course take or destroy them ![]()
If something like this was incorporated into JtL I'd agree with full sized systems. If not, they'd only be a waste of server space.

Well then I guess we are all in agreement that they should do this for JTL

Best part of Elite II ?
I once missjumped, and ended up 20-30m off of the wallmap the game came with.
All alone, 1-2 years of ingame playing and jumping away from any other living creatures in the game...
