Are there any good a-wing configurations out there that would be better for fighting than an x-wing. If you think so post the parts here:

You should be able to fit the following:

Advanced Blaster (13-14k mass)
Level 6/7 Engine (13-14k mass)
Level 6/7 Shield (can't remember the mass, probably 13-14k again)
Level 2/3 Capacitor (There are some great crafted capacitors around now)
Level 2/3 Droid Interface

That should leave you with about 15k mass to play with. Look for a looted low level reactor with enough power to supply those parts, 14k power should be more than enough.

When you have all those parts you can add level 1 armor, the Prototype Armor that's provided with the free starters ships is perfect for the A-wing. Add a missile launcher and a low level booster if you have the spare mass and power.

That should keep the total mass under the A-wing's capacity.

Is it better than the X-wing? Its a matter of tastes. I redeeded my x-wing halfway through my tier 4 missions, the A-wing was more suited to my flight style and I still had my Y-wing if I needed more damage output.

The A-wing is far more maneuverable, its very easy to fly at 90-95% throttle in combat and it is very easy to stay on the tails of fighters.

Against fighters the A-wing is amazing, against Decimators/YT-1300's and above it is useable, but you spend a lot of your time on strafing runs.

I've been pondering this same question of late.

I think number three is an easy rule-out. That's a real nice level 6 gun, but the odds will still be heavily stacked against you if you run up against a 2k+ base shield that's front-adjusted....

....unless you run that level 10 engine and you're real, REAL confident in your ability to score rear hits. Hm.

On Lowca we run once-every-three-weeks 1v1 tournaments. In our current metagame conditions, with those options, I'd actually switch back and forth. Between rounds, even. If you can jekyll and hyde your flying style enough to support it, it'd be brutal on the competition.

I have two setups, but a third in the process. I have my mainstay A-wing which I like best which has the general stats in my sig (I keep swapping capacitors etc with better lvl 2 ones as I get them re'd but the engine, weapon and shield are currentl the same) so thats lvl 8 engine, lvl 8 weapon, lvl 7 protecto.

I also have my lvl 10 engine A-wing which runs a lvl 7 Ionic pulse weapon re and a mk III shield. The mkIII shield is justifiable to the point that the lvl 10 engine gives me more playing room, so it is less likely for me to get hit, but I do like my lvl 8 gun so I prefer the other set up even if it makes me work harder with my turns. The above set up is not only great for pvp, but good for pve too.

Lastly, I have my ongoing project A-wing which will be a lvl 8 engine, lvl 8 weapon, lvl 7 shield set up but this time I'm aiming for the best possible stats on every component (so its going to take a long time to finish.)
Well, basically I'll be aiming for the lvl 8 engine to have the same kind of mass as my current lvl 8 with the same speed (or faster if possible) but I'm aiming for the 1.4 (max) r,p,y rates with r,p,y on the new engine being about 78/79.

The new lvl 8 weapon, I am too aiming for that real low mass, but also I want the refire to be a little quicker because I hear it can go quicker than .390.

I also have a new protecto net in the works which will re to 2100hp front/back but I need one with the low mass so it'll squeeze inside too.

So basically, once finished, the third A-wing will have the best of all worlds with the 1.4 max rate on the turn and the punchy weapon but I must admit, I do feel safer with the A-wing setup I have in my sig for the reason that I've used it a lot and next to noone can shoot me down while I'm using it. I am yet totry my lvl 10 engine setup in a proper pvp situation.

Btw, your first setup suggestion more or less mirrors my own so you'll be able to see what I mean. Your shield is prettier though.
