sorry for sounding Noobish, but where exactly is Kessel? I've been trying to find it in space and I cant

You don't need prestige points or master your pilot professionto get into kessel for crying out loud. If you're Imperial, just go to Endor, once you're there, open your system map, and look under POI, there's something called "XXX Claw" or something like that, don't remember what exactly it's called. Anyway,go there and talk to the Imperial station and tell it that you want to go to kessel. For Rebels, you need to go some Rebel space station which I don't know since I'm not Rebel.

Hmm didn't know that; I thought it was like deep space, where you get access only through mastering. Or I might be wrong on that too...

You don't need either to get into 'Kessel', Deep Space yes but not Kessel.
Just having a little fun with ya, don't get mad...
Anyway in answer to the poster's question, In Dant. or Dath., sorry don't rem which one, there is a hyperspace jump point, called "Deep Space"(this is not the really real Deep Space sector, just the name of a jump point), you will find a station there, /comm the station and they will ask you if ya wanna goto Kessel, say yes.

Yeah, DeepSpace requires prestige points, so you have to be an Ace to get in, but Kessel is for everyone.

Freelancers can enter Kessel/Deep Space in Dathomir. Just hyperspace to Emperor's Peace in Dathomir, use the "c" key to target the nearest station and you'll target one that simply says "Space Station". Head there, open a commlink to it and enter Kessel.

Or you can go to the Rebel Station if you wanna fight for them, you do have a choise, but you must choose Imp, or Reb faction, you can not go neutral.

kessel is in space, in the kessel zone
But honestly If you are an imp go to claw station in Endor and choose to comm with it,
You will het the option to do travel to kessel or deep space
