I'm trying out the Y-8 quest, (I know it's bugged and impossible to complete at the end, but I want to see the bug for myself.) and I got to the part where I have to mine 250 units ofSilacious Asteroid. So I equipped the Class 1 Mining Laser and the Small Cargo Hold the quest guy gives me, and I go into space. I look up an asteroid on the map and go to it. Then I shoot it with the mining laser, and nothing happens!!! I've been shooting at this thing for forever, and my cargo hold is still empty!!! I figure I must be doing somthing wrong. Can any of you guys out there explain to me how to mine asteroids in space?

All you need to know about mining and more

Btw chances are in your case is the asteroid is "dry".. probably has nothing left in it.. so just move onto the next asteroid and begin shooting

In my experience on Starsider, the silicaceous asteroid closest to Talus station is bugged and never spawns chunks, then it blows up as if it was dry. I flew to the next one out and got resources with no problems after 5 minutes of shooting at the first one.

I've been having this problem too. I'll have to try this.
