one thing I haven't been able to find out about these though (cause I'm a bit of a noob too) is do you get it and your option of the regular 6 month vet rewards, or do you get this as one of your choices of 6 month vet reward?

The yacht is seperate from those rewards, so you can get both.

The nice thing about the Yacht is if you ever get stuck on a planet without one of your ships, the yacht deed spawns infinite ships, so you can just generate one and fly away. The yacht comes with componnents in it, and is invunerable to fire, but does not have weapons, missions do not activate in it, and you cannot change the weapon loadout. It's almost like a space house.

What I love with the Yacht is that it is free storage space.

Quite ideal if you're going to be gone for a while. You don't want a house with your stuff in it, getting destroyed from you not paying your maintenance!
