Thread: Naval faction ranking

This has been brought up before. Well over a year ago from what my search showed. And it is a petty thing compared to the real changes that need to be made butI think it would be an easy fix to allow players to choose their faction rank from either a naval or ground pounder system. Equivalent ranking could be:

Seaman Recruit

Seaman Apprentice

Seaman

Petty Officer

Chief Petty Officer

Senior Chief Petty Officer

Master Chief Petty Officer

Midshipman

Naval Warrant Officer I

Naval Warrant Officer II

Ensign

Lieutenant Junior Grade

Lieutenant

Lieutenant Commander

Commander

Navy Captain

I'm retired navy and now am master of my own virtual spaceship. I would like to be called Captain vice Colonel. It's a matter of pride. No offense to all the ground pounders. My family history is filled wth those who served in the army. I just had to be different. And with the Army/Navy game less than a month away. Go Navy! Beat Army!

The Imperial Navy appear to use a mixture of British and German WW2 era ranks for navy. However, technically, we're not Navy, we're Flight, and so would use the Flight column: Army/Navy/Flight Comparative Rank Chart.

In Star Wars they use naval ranks for pilots, not air force.

Read the above link. They may assign them a naval rank, but you still have to have a rank-position within Flight, how else would you be able to tell "Commander in charge of Garbage Disposal" from a decorated Wing Commander Ace?

I could go on about which is considered more important, the decorated ace or the seaman which is usually in charge of garbage disposal, but the point of the thread is thereshould be an option between the ground base ranks and the space base. Whether it's naval system or flight doesn't matter to me.

That I can agree with. This seems like an ideal use for Prestige Points for those players not interested in PvP, or those Aces with more PP than they could possibly need.

Seeing as there is a direct comparison between most Naval/Flight ranks and Army ranks, it should even be fairly quick and easy to change the ground-based Faction Recruiter code to address you by your Navy/Flight rank.
