Thread: So you think you can do the Kessel Run in under 17 parsecs?

The element of danger and the adventure that was found in the Kessel sector was toned down with it's change to a PvE zone.

I think that the PvP community has some payback due and putting in a "Kessel Run" is one way to do it!

Han Solo made Kessel famous withhis boasting about the Falon's speedand ability to make the run and we should have that same opertunity! Give us a Kessel Run mission where we have to smuggle spice or some other item from waypoint A to E

with the catch being we are PvP enabled! Maybe throw in a few NPC's that we have to deal with along the wayas well. Perhaps
allow us to eject the cargo - can anyone say bounty! The kill kill kill missions are going to get old really quick...

I don't care how it happens, just make happen.

Kessel run in 2005!

There are three easy steps to make this happen.

1) Move the Master Pilot mission out of Kessel. There are plenty of other systems that the Alliance and the Empire could be vying for control over, and it wouldn't be much to change a few names in the code now, would it? How about Thyferra, which produced a large quanitity of the galaxy's all-purpose healing agent, Bacta? It was featured in many of the Rogue Squadron books (what better tie in for Jump to Lightspeed) and it would make sense that the Alliance and the Empire would both want to control a planet with such a wartime-crucial export. Just create a random-looking empty zone, call it Thyferra, and have it accessable through the same space stations that Kessel and Deep Space are now. You don't even have to change the galaxy map. You can even keep the same Corvette spawn code.

2) Re-enable PvP in Kessel.

3) Add in a (possibly timed) delivery quest, or series of delivery quests that force you go to through Kessel. PvE spawns are welcome (both in the form of Imperial/Rebel interlopers as well as Pirates). There could also be stations where one can get a mission to DEFEND a given target from other players attempting their run (if no players respond to this mission or are in the area at that time, increase the PvE spawns accordingly). A feature to allow people to disable ships with spice in them, dock, steal it, and complete the mission themselves would be nice.

Look, however you want to set the mission, it's obviously up to you guys. But you won't create a convincing or proper Kessel experience if it's just PvE, because PvE only wins due to overwhelming numbers or fighter superiority, and Master Pilots won't have any trouble with the latter. I can completely understand not wanting to FORCE people to run the Kessel Master Pilot mission in a PvP zone, and I agree with it to a point. But the Master Pilot mission is necessary to complete everyone's Profession. A Kessel Run mission would be a voluntary content option, and since not everyone HAS to do it in order to reach Master Pilot, making it PvP is fair game.

I just think it would be so cool to have Kessel run bragging rights. The intent with the Master mission was there but preventing someones advancement by forcing them to PvP is just to exposed to griefing. A Kessel mission run would bring back the SWFF

(Star WarsFun Factor) which makes SWG feel like Star Wars. The run needs to be for PvP enabled ships only though! That element of danger must be there for the run to have any "real" meaning.

Incidentally, did anyone catch GL's commentary on the DVD of ANH? He mentions the Kessel Run. Apparently there is some confusion with this, because fans commonly confuse a parsec with a measure of time. It isn't - it's actually a unit of distance. Han Solo was able to complete the run in less than average distance due to his skillful manipulation of risky hyperspace jumps.

Good that someone mentions this.......

Ha, at least GL repairs a BLOOPER in the movie....

Maybe SOE can learn something from him? (Repair bugs )

I think if they moved the Master Pilot missions out of Kessel, and kept it strickly PvP - while at the same time introduced a new set of factional missions that would take people through Kessel for special rewards (like a Theme Park), that would be cool. I'd be up for doing forced PvP missions, as long as my profession mastery didn't depend on it.

I'm all for it.. but let's face it. It will never happen because all the PvE players will whine that they are being denied "content" in the game due to forced PvP.

Until SOE gets a spine and embraces PvP, it will not happen.
