I love using my keyboard and mouse.. the ship response great with them.. for me anyways.. Intellimouse Optical 3.0 on a Ratpadz Mouse Surface.
I use the following keymap:
left-right arrow keys for left-right movements (roll)
up-down arrow keys for throttle
[ ] for targetting components
mouse button 1 for group 1 fire (single blaster)
mouse button 2 for group 2 fire (multiple blasters)
mouse button 4 (thumb) for missles
mouse button 5 (ring finger) for countermeasure
middle mouse button (press wheel down) for "target under reticle"
mouse wheel to zoom in and out
mouse movements to pitch and yaw
everything else is more or less default (as with some of the above setting)

Silly question time..........
Read the key comamnds for JTL, and its does say you can use the keyboard to control the movement of the ship (if i remember the num pad keys) but I cannot get this to work.. mouse is ok but can be slow to respond at times.. and yes before u shout get a joystick,,, I will soon..... but in the meantime I WANNA use the keyboard!!!!!!!
wishing that it will be better response..!!!

I also prefer to use the keyboard/mouse combo as I am A LOT more accurate with it than the joystick -- maybe not as manueverable, but definitely more accurate. If I'm facing something I can't just blow-up in a couple shots (capital ships mostly), the joystick can be handy for evasive manuevers. With the fighters, tho, I'd much rather use the mouse. I don't need to be able to do rolling dives while toggling my throttle - just set a decent turning speed (around 50-60% for my ship) and shoot anything that comes near. Three guns with Weapons Overload 3 and Capacitor 4 means I can dump a lot of damage out quickly and not need to let off the trigger much.
I must admit, I would not consider using only the keyboard as it seems a lot harder to control that way.
