I know this has been discussed before. Yes we know there is nothing to do after mastering pilot. Yes we know that pvp in space sucks. Yes we know that there is not enough content for JTL. Yes we know there is nothing to do with prestige aside from going to deep space.
However, I have been thinking about it myself and I asked myself, What does JTL mean to the ground game?
My answer to myself was, nothing at all (ok, so I talk to myself
). Its as if they both could be two separate games. The only dependency that JTL has on the ground game is shipwrights, places to land, repair, take off and storage of looted ship parts until they get RE'd.
Now I know that the devs are starting to tie ground based missions with partial space missions together.....but how about taking it a bit further.
First get pvp fixed so that you can actually have a space battle instead of a first round iron mike tyson knockout in a few seconds.
Second, add something to space that we can use prestige for other than deep space.
Third, give master pilot a real meaning other than gaining prestige to get to deep space and flying ships that really aren't much better then the ones you used to get to master. (currentlyin my opinion, a y-wing is better than a b-wing for all situations except fire power, but you don't need massive fire power all that much anyway).
Last, find a way to tie JTL to the ground game aside from getting a mission on the ground that sends you to space and back. How about making the things that happen in space affect the mood of citizens on the ground.....have a large scale battle over naboo.....well maybe the citizens of the planet dislike that and you lose -5000 faction with every mob on that planet, plus you can't take any missions on that planet, you can't loot resources from creatures on that planet (ok stretching it a bit..hehe)....point is make space affect something on the ground.
One bigsolution to get things started that I thought of would first benefit the crafters and then everyone else afterwards.
***Mining resources in space***
wouldn't it be nice to actually be able to go into a new space zone (something like deep space) which has rich resources in asteroid fields that you can mine, take back to the crafters on the ground and they can use it for creating items for both ground and space. I mean there could be a number of ways to do it. Maybe a architect can create a special space mining station that you have to deploy in space. The difference would be that you can operate it manually instead of placing it and let it run like ground harvesters. You could make it automated but it would yield 50% - 75% less resources due to the fact that mining in space is completely different from the ground. on the ground, resources aren't going anywhere....in space, that big ole rock your mining constantly moves and turns.....so with that, other than making some kind of tracking device, theory has it thatif you placed a mining station on an asteroid, how would you find it days later...it would have floated off somewhere right? So make it interactive in some way if possible.
Well, being present at the mining station would solve that issue first of all.....second it would allow you to concentrate on the most rich asteroids, therefore gaining more resources. Now I'm not saying that it should take days to mine the stuff....but it should be an interactive process (like fishing is on the ground). It may be a little boring but heck fishing is too sometimes......make it so that you can't go up and mine enough resources in 1 hour to meet he requirement for that specific item you need it for. also, there will be dangers out there, like pirates looking to rob you of your resources.
However, the real purpose of getting resources from space is that you can make stuff with it that you can't make from ground resources. Specifically, better ship parts, better components for ground items to make them function slightly better. This would give people incentive to mine in space.it would be a nice little money maker for many players.They want that improved sublight engine....well you need that specific resource that can only be found in an asteroid field. You want that high conductive resource to increase a component for your weapon, armor, droid, vehicle..etc. then go mine that resource from that asteroid out in deep deep space.
As far as getting to the asteroid field, it should only be accessible to master pilots and you would need the appropriate prestige to get there (like deep space). As well as a certain type of ship. Meaningthat you need a multiplayer ship for storage of the resource.....a lightorheavy fighter wouldn't be sufficient. You would also use prestige for maintenance of your mining station instead of credits. This gives master pilots a reason to gain more prestige (to power your mining station). That would also mean tweaking the amount of prestige rewarded per kill or making the maintianence a reasonably cost but repairs significantly higher.
Now the above idea is just off the top of my head and is just a rough draft of what could be done...I'm no expert, but imagination and creativeness is one of my strong attributes
I also, don't know how much work it would take to have a whole new space zone with resources spawing in space, so maybe the existing asteroids in already existing zones could be used instead...but that would leave out the way of gaining access to a specific space zone. It might not even be possible, nevertheless, it's an idea and all things started as an idea before they became a reality.
Also, for pilot prestige, there are a lot of things I can think of to do with it besides deep space and my idea above.....however, I'll reserve that for a later discussion.
Anyway, my main reason for writing this is because I haven't flown my ships in 2 months....I'm just not interested anymore. Maybe if PVP was actually fun, I would zip through the stars once again with mighty wingmates at my side....but I'm sad that with the state of JTL right now, my wingmates and I would all be space dust in 10 seconds....then we would be asking ourselves "why did we fly up here again?"
In closing, we have to find some way to tie the ground game with space....heck having space stations where you could actually land on them would be nice...Maybe this is all to early to be thinking about with all the work going into the Combat Rebalance....maybe the devs will look into it more at a later time. I mean they did spend a lot of time just getting it to us to play....
Can JTL ever be tied to the ground game in any other ways?

Allright, I agree. Nice ideas.
In my opinion, if they want to connect JTL to the ground game:
1) Add a base system in space. Bases could be star destroyers, Corellian Corvette, Mon Calamari space ship, etc... All these bases should have turrets, a hospital, a recruiter, a gcw terminaland a Cantina inside. It should be possible to land on these bases to defende them.
2) Destroyng the space bases you can conquer the whole space sector, and that could have a heavy influence on the gcw score for the planets of that sector.

I agree 100% with the space base idea, I personally think it would set JTL apart from all the TIE fighter, X-wing, X-wing vs. TIE fighter, Wing Commander (and of that series' iterations), and about every other space sim game you've ever played. I mean, I really dont understand how lack of content can even be an issue with JTL (except maaaaaybe not enough time in a day to put everything into development). How cool would it be to be able to have the new GCW implementations with the ground game in space...it wouldn't just be cool...it would be complete. As it stands now the GCW situation is looking much like the Death Star in Return of the Jedi...only partially constructed.
Dev's I beg you...we NEEED bases in space in the form of the aforementioned Star Destroyers and Blockade runners n such. I mean we can dock just like we do with current missions, although changing the animation sequence for docking with larger ships would be awesome...like entering the ship through the hanger and having the animation pull you into the ship. Imagine being able to have the option of manning an available turret if the ship falls under attack, quickly scrambling to the hanger to get to your ship to help defend, or take on the role of "engineer" and run back and forth throughout the giant ship fixing thing's that are getting damaged. The engineer role would be cool if you could group with other engineers to increase the amount of damage you could heal. If the ship gets destroyed...everyone on the ship loads back to the planet with mega wounds and significant faction loss.
Since the idea of JTL was ever mentioned this has been what i've been dreaming of. I think space bases are a pivotal part of SWG's development into a game that would crush the competition...because let's face it everyone loves Star Wars. Another idea would be to mirror the ground base purchasing system you have already added to the game, for instance you could make it so purchasing Star Destroyers (PVP base)would likewise come with 1 or 2 additional smaller PVE ships...once again adding more content for everyone and filling up that presently empty space with more symbols of factional control. Personally I dont think it's right that i'm almost a master pilot for the rebellion and i've never even seen a Star Destroyer in space.
Ok so now i will chant over a Voodoo Doll to try and invoke a dev reading my post. I apologize if all your hair falls out as a result of this, but in the long run it will only do you good when society shuns your hideousness and you're forced into a basement where you can continue to work on the idea's that I and many other players have suggested on these JTL posts. Truth is...we dont need more missions...we need space bases so WE can create our own missions!...a little bit of work from you on this would only benefit you. So please, please, please, let me get what i want...lord knows it would be the first time.

K...i realize that my last post was a bit off topic for the thread...but it needed to be said. Hehe i'm a poet and i dont even know it. Feel free to bump the post to where it belongs. Heard you people can do that...what do i know i've only posted 3 times hehe thanks.
