Thread: How to make lower tier Multi passenger ships work.

The biggest arguement against makeing multi passenger ships avaliable to lower tier pilots is that it would remove the incentive for getting ace to have the multi passenger ships. I however would like to see these kind of ships at all levels if no just for the roleplay value alone. This is an RPG after all. One solution to this problem would be to lower the mass on these lower tier multipassenger ships so that they can't be tanked up and made into better combat ships than they should be.
Now I know what your saying. How could a multi passenger ship weigh less than or the same as an X-wing? Here's how. Being civilian ships these multi passenger ships are built with lighter frames that can't support the heavy armor or weapons that the YT-1300, Nova, or Decimator. Fighters on the other hand have heavy combat frames built to hold the heavier armor and weapons. An armored car weighs much more than a regular car of the same physical size. In fact they weigh more than vehicals that can actually hall more freight. And that's what these ships should be. Freighters with just enough defenses to get them out of a jam but not enough to go it alone into truely dangerous systems.
Of course it would be nice to have non RPG reasons to have them as well. Like space mineing where you would be able to mine astroids for minerals and nebula for gasses. Here's another one. Cargo holds. This is a special hold that works like a container that can hold several items. At least 100 items and perhaps more on larger ships. This would allow you to load large ammounts of items into the hold but if items were in the hold you could not use the travel option and would have to launch into space to transport the goods. This would really help people trying to move large opperations like malls and player cities from plannet to plannet. The reason I would disable to travel option when things were in the hold would be to keep players from using these ships just for storage. Of course you could also tie missions into this as well with freighter missions. You get the mission either from a space station or from a guild hall on the ground. Your cargo hold get's loaded with freight that you must transport to another space port or space station. Along the way the mission might spawn pirates to attack you. This is kind of like a reverse escort mission. Payout would be higher based on the difficulty of the mission and of course fighters grouped with you could act as your escorts. Smugglers could even get special smuggling missions like this but that would spawn customs inspectors. It would be even cooler if you could get stopped and borded by customs ships that would then search your ship for the smuggled goods. If they found the goods you could fight them off and try to make an escape or pay the fine and loose the goods thus failing the missions. You could get or craft special smuggling holds as a smuggler to add to your ships. Larger holds would hold more goods for larger payout while smaller holds would be much harder to detect by customs officials but the pay out would be lower. Failing a number of these missions could cause you to get placed on the Bounty Hunter terminals. One obvious place to take these missions from would be Jabba's palace. Look new content for the POI and JTL all in one. What do you think?
