:little backstory behind themain idea:

So I got to thinking, what ever will I do once my nice 103 and 92.2 engines finally kick the bucket and go to the big scrap yard in the sky!..... Then the second part came from entering deep space today and spending 30k or whatever prestige to enter.....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well... here goes....

ive seen some other posts around regarding prestige points and how entering deep space is all we have to spend them on and... well thats kinda LAMEEEEEEEEE!!!

My solution , you may ask?

Why not as pilots, dont we get the ability to buy some "Exceptional" equipment Schematics of Starfighter components, that shipwrights can use to make a 1 item per blueprint peice...

my idea is like this.... you go to your tier 4 guy or wherever.... Dealer has an engine like 120.7 and you just HAVE to have it....

the dealer says to you... "Well sonny your such a prestigious pilot , I guess I could sell ya the blueprint to this fine mackdaddy of an engine, for 1 Million prestige!"

After which you run down all bubbly to your local shipwright to have it whiped up......

rinse and repeat for other stuff like special blasters, sheilds ,armor etc etc etc

Gives something to strive for after master!

Thoughts?

Sounds good, except I'd make the things you can get for Prestige Points a bit less useful. They should be objects of coolness instead of usefulness, otherwise it will end up as another Jedi grind - if you can get all the parts for a 'ubership' by endless grinding of Prestige Points, that's what everyone will end up doing, thus forcing everyone else to do it in order to be competitive. Rewards should be along the lines of a special paint job, special helmets, even 'exceptional' ship parts - but limited to, for example, a single Prestige Point ship part on one ship, or something like that.

One thing that is missing in this game is the uniqueness factor - you can't, for example, say 'I got this slugthrower from Nym himself as a reward for my services', because everyone else already has 10 of those in their weapon cabinet. We need things like that in JTL and in the ground game.

This is a good idea, though I do agree that the grind-factor for everyone else could be crippling. The solution, as I see it, is to give Prestige Exceptional items either UNGODLY mass or UNGODLY reactor requirements. Not so much that you have to hose the rest of your ship, but enough so that having more than, say, two of them would require you to put a mediocre piece somewhere else. That's an easy way to limit Prestige Exceptionals without creating new item rules.

And yes, people will whine, "OMFG!!!!1 devs Y dont U ply UR gamezzz???" But people will whine no matter what you do in an MMO, and at least this would make things relatively fair, while still giving people who spend the Prestige something of an edge.

yep definatly need some trade off like mass or reactor drain. i just dread the idea of going so slow once my 92.2 engine bites the big one

I agree 100% with this sentiment. Enhancements are an important part of the ground game, but should not be in JTl. First of all because of the grind factor. Second because players will then use any exploit or other means to get them. Third because it opens a whole balance debate (and fairness debate as well). The rewards in space should be cool, but should keep the playing field level.

The underlying philosophy which I espousing here is that JTL should be encouraged for the fun of the game and not for loot or advantages.

YES!

I completely agree with you...we definately need to do something like that...something cool that we can get to show off our master piloting ability .

this would be AWSOME! sure it would cause some people to grind, but isn't that what you're doing now anyway? even have the ship parts "ranked" in that you pay more prestige, you get better parts.
