The forum system here won't let me post a direct image link (and for good reason I suppose), so enjoy the following CLICKY.

i hate to prove wrong a good point, but thats just the view, the lasers up front are farther away making them appear smaller and closer together, whereas the TIE would be farther away, lookign smaller and being in the middle of those laser blasts making it appear like convergance
but really,we do need it in game, its apain to shoot some things without it

You know, I thought that at first, too. But look at how LARGE the TIE is that the X-Wing is shooting at. If that's 500m+ out, I'm a lithuanian belly dancer!

Laser Convergence would be helpful against TIEs since you have to hit the small pod to damage them.

That image isn't convergence, it's just perspective that makes it look like convergence. Convergence in this game really doesn't matter any way. There have been a number of threads in the forums that point to the fact that the connection of one bolt from a weapon registers a full hit. If two bolts hit then it's still registered as only one full hit. Damage is not calculated on a bolt by bolt basis and your weapons readout doesn't register them that way either (ie. there is a min-max for the weapon, you mount one weapon, one weapon appears as two physical visual weapons pods that fire two bolts, the two bolts are visual, nothing more).
Convergence doesn't matter... the game registers whether you hit with a weapon or not... it doesn't register how many bolts you hit with nor does it matter... hit with 1 bolt or 2 bolts, it still registers as just one full hit.

I thought so at first, too. But the TIE he is shooting at (which is CLOSER to the X-Wing than the end of the blaster fire trail) is obviously less than 500 meters away.

My issue isn't whether all the shots hit, but rather with the placement for the guns on most ships. It essentially requires you to jink your ship left and right (or up and down) and fly off target in order to land your shots. Also, that's fair to say for some ships, but consider the X-Wing (which I do not fly, but am using as an example). Yes, if one of the blaster bolts hits, they register as damage. But the X-Wing has two sets of blasters on its wings. You might as well not even bother firing them all at the same time without convergence, unless you feel like throwing your ship into an epileptic siezure.

I managed to find something interesting to further support convergence. While looking at the friday feature for today (fansites), i found this on the SWGWiki website, on the X-Wing Page, which can be found at this page.
So... If I am understanding this correctly, the weapons on an X-Wing SHOULD converge, at this so called "zero" point. Which brings an interesting thought to me about converging weapons... They would only be able to be used to their fullest extent at a certain range, which is pretty hard to keep in space combat... If they are too close the fire range is too large to have all hit, and if they are past the "zero" point, the bolts (like an 'X') will begin to distance themselves. Seems like that would be a pain, but it would definately add some serious strategy if you had to keep enemies at a certain distance to be able to lay some smack down on them.
