no, well atleast in beta you had to get back into the positive side of a faction to become a pilot for them.

As a covert rebel, you *will not* be able to talk to any of the Imperial Pilot trainers.

So... I'm an Imperial pilot...
what happens if I quit the Empire (on the ground), do a bunch of Rebel ground term missions... and then talk to a Reb recruiter...
Will i loose access to my ships? ????

You'll lose access to your ships because if you resign from the Empire I believe it autoretires you from your squadron, and you'll lose all certifications to pilot any Imperial craft.

I can vouch for this. My rebel pilot started as a privateer. I had to resign from privateer by talking to Gill Burton. I then could speak to an Alliance pilot trainer. (I had no positive or negative faction standing for Reb or Imp at that time.) I lost my certification to fly my Dunelizard when I resigned from privateer. I could not access it. I could however deed it. (I had removed the parts before I changed.)
