X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter isn't really a MMO.

The only truly twitch based MMO Space Flight Sim currently on the market is Star Wars Galaxies with the JTL or RotW expansion packs.

Used to be a game called tachyon was free online play.

think the servers are still up but no one plays anymore.

Other wise your stuck with flight sims like Ace High 2 which is WWII and has a large selection of planes think like 60 from bomber with multiple people riding as gunners (and can be self guned something SOE needs to look at) to stock fighters and jets of the time.

I know of a good one that came out several years ago, named Allegiance. While it may not technically be classified as an MMO a single server could support a couple hundred players. Microsoft (the maker of the game) eventuallystopped supporting itbecause it was mostly intended to be a testbed for new DirectX networking technology. Anyway many players were still interested in the game so they literally took the reigns by "hacking" the game, and they now run all of the servers.

The game is now completely free and the source code was recently released by MS. I haven't played itin several months but I would recommend it if you are interested into space combat, it is unlike any other out there.

Microsoft's Freelancer offered a free mutliplayer option. Just be aware that there's no telling when a player-hosted server is going to be up. So if you make any progress you can lose it and have to start over on another server. Some servers were pretty good about being available 24/7. Just gotta find the right one. If there's still some out there.I haven't played since i started SWG with JTL.

EVE Online is not a first person shooter persay, not twitch based at least. If anything, it's very similar to ground combat in SWG.
