Thread: Why does Higher Tier Consitute Heavier?

Im trying to figure out why neccesarily getting a level 10 item weighs so much more then something at a lower level. You would figure at higher levels they would makehigher tier stuff heaviergranted but a "little" bigger then the lower tier stuff but more efficient. You see no efficiency with high tier equipment. I have a level 1-2 capacitor with 902 energy that out produced level 9 gear i find. Give us some Solar Panels or something to assist our reactors all the factions can use solar cells.

My guess would be the allocation method of "mass".

Yes, technically something more advanced would be smaller and more compact, but a 4-banger engine IS smaller than a V8, which is many times smaller than a diesel-electric locomotive engine... Whichdevelops more "power"?

Looted high lvl components do seem to have more masss then they should. all the components on my a-wing are lvl 6 and lower. obviously you can't expect to have the best parts on everything bit does seem a bit to high atm.

I guess it's the same idea of a 16-year-old learning to drive in a Honda, or a 1972 Pontiac Executive.

Stick to the lighter car until you learn how to maneuver a bigger, heavier one. Less will die on the sidewalks.

HythosSWG has it right.

It's plausible that higher technology devices wouldhave less mass(even while doing more).

Butmass is the one "cost" that SWG can apply along with the benefits of whatever the device is. So to get the benefit of that bigger shield capacitor or more powerful weapon, you're assessed a higher price in mass.

Thetight associationbetweenbenefits and costsrequires (and allows) playersto make interesting decisions about which parts to use, resulting inunique ships and a fun ship management minigame. This cost/benefit understandingis one of the game design decisions that makes JtL interesting and fun...and isone of the things the ground game most desperately needs to copy from JtL.

See i dont mind the higher mass, i would be willing to use these higher end items "If" you got something from the item other then mass. i understand the hitpoints of the item and such. But most of the high Tier items im finding are worse then an item you would find floating above tatooine in a novice zone. Granted Guns do seem to go up right but reactors and capacitors are bass-akwards.

If higher tech level components did not offer additional functionality, I would agree with you. But that is not the case. It's the improved stats that cause the increased mass. Consider, if you like, a .22 pistol and a .357 magnum. Both are hand guns. The magnum is clearly for more advanced shooters than the other (higher tech level). And the magnum would definitely weigh more, even if it is a more sophisticated piece of equipment. But in exchange for that weight, you are gaining the ability to dissassociate body parts with their parent torso.

I will admit, though, that a lot of loot seems to have extra mass but NOT extra stats. Well, that loot, uh, sucks. And we have been mostly spoiled on good low level loot. The high level loot, with the additional mass, has the capacity to be of higher performance quality.
